Hi, well basically my insurance is going to be veryyy high for reasons we wont go into.. and the 1.6 corsa is only £200 more to insure than the 1.4 corsa. So Im going to get one of them. Ive heard that the 1.6 is one of the fastest 1.6s around. Is it any good for a first car? Pros and cons please :) Im talking about the 1996-2000 model by the wayy.. Cheers

Note that in the "worst car you've driven this year" thread, at least ten* responses have involved the word "Corsa".

Avoid like the plague would be my advice, but then I'm prejudiced - since every single one I've had the misfortune of driving or riding in has been ****.

* - it was ten earlier, haven't checked since then.

You thinking of one of the GSI or Sport models. They arn't bad to be honest. Bit dated now, but were quick enough in their day.

You could also consider a saxo VTR

Appalling cars surely built only to prove the stupidity of the general public. They aren't the cheapest in class and in no department the best in class. Mostly the worst driving experience you can be charged through the nose for. There are so many better cars on the market that the Corsa should never EVER be on the list.

What this model of Corsa is:

- Reliable
- Economical
- Virtually free to run

What this model of Corsa isnt:

- Anything more than a tiny little car for kids and grannies

Conclusion, the 1.6 is pointless

Saxo VTR would be my choice for a little tin with a 1.6 engine.

Superbly fun little cars if you don't care about the stigma attached (I wouldn't care, as I know how fun they are).

Ive got a fiesta 1.25, wish I didnt. The insurance is absolutely ridiculous for some reason. I can insure a 1.4/1.6 focus for the same money. Not a bad car for first car but check insurance before you go anywhere with that idea
