I7-965 My Early Thoughts

Synthetic Benchmarks

Except for Vantage ran all these at 1024x768 did not seem much point doing at a higher res as the 4850 is the obvious bottleneck. None of the results are remarkable really as expected but at least they are around the same CPU wise as a Quad or Dual Core. I suspect when new bench marking software comes out which is written for multicore then you will see the difference.

Over the weekend I will do some gaming benchmarks on recent titles which supposedly use multicore. So far I have tried Need For Speed Undercover, Left 4 Dead, Assassins Creed & Devil May Cry4. Having problems with Windows LIVE being overloaded so cannot try Lost Planet or Fallout3 at the moment. Lost Planet is one I really want to test as Intel say its 40% faster than the fastest Quad Core on their test bed!

The HSF Intel supply is very good and could well put companies like Zalman & Thermalright out of business as its totally silent, looks good weights very little and the temps so far do not exceed 60C on any core even after a heavy load (this is with the stock Intel TIM as well).

Dolby Theatre onboard this Gigabyte mobo is also amazing and makes games sound a lot better with deep bass and very clear sound. How Gigabyte can sell it for only £225 is beyond me as it looks great thanks to all the LED's and has a lot of features I am only begining to discover now.

My Little 939 amd 64fx is sitting waiting , wondering how long its got left........

probably 2 more pay day's, or about back end of January.

I really want one of these new setups but i dont need to upgrade but i just want something new to play with and satisfy me! :p

I may just go with the 920.. from the reviews/benchmarks ive seen they clock just as well as the stupidly expensive extreme versions.

What is annoying though is that the Q9450 is actually around the same performance as the 920, though the 920 is about 20% better for games etc when clocked. Hopefully i can buy before Xmas, then ill get a better clocking chip as apparently the early ones are best clockers.

I have one of those pay as you go credit cards. You have to pay money onto it at the post office or with a standing order at your bank before you use it. Then you can only spend that much.

It stops you spending too much on silly things like i7 release purchases!! :p

Isn't that called a debit card ;)

Yes my master your wish is my command:D

Could not be bothered to run the last 2 tests. Also should be getting a GTX260 Maxcore216 in a few days for more serious gaming benchies

Disappointed to be honest. Expect more like sub 12s for 1Mb.

Be careful what you wish for.......

This was achieved just using the Intel Turbo Boost function in the bios & setting the Ram timings to Extreme in the bios. Still getting used to it not really had time to explore the bios yet loads of new settings to try:D Intel must have some Area 51 technology from 1947:eek: as even when oced to 3.75Ghz the temps hardly changed:eek: and even when I put the stock HSF to performance mode its still almost silent on 500 more RPM:eek: Cannot wait for more peeps to get these as there is a lot of extreme fun to be had and some eye opening performance. I was a little disappointed at first but now I have enabled Extreme Ram timings Vista feels like perfect. XP speed on almost everything:eek:

One thing that I do not agree on: your QX6850 wasn't average.

It's still a top end CPU.

Any how - I'd love to go for a new mobo/8gb/920 but I don't think I'd notice amazing things over my Q6600 - that said I may just dive in @ Christmas.
