I'm not sure whether to go for either:

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4850 PCS Extreme 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4850 "Golden Sample" 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

I read that the 512mb cards are better as the memory clock speeds are slightly faster. Will I need 1gb of memory for games any time soon, or will 512 suffice for a while yet?

Also what difference does manufacturer make? I see Asus are better for warranties, but what about card performance and mid-resolutions?

If your using resolutions like 1900x1200 then get 1gb but if, your gaming at 1680x1050 and below then i'd go for 512mb then maybe crossfire it later.

Cool, thanks, I'll go for the gainward 512mb card then.
