Porsche Panamera

there's identity across the range, and then there's identity since the dawn of time.

That said I like the shape of the 911 more now than I have done at any time in the past.

Oh, come on....

Now you're just being silly. Look at an early 911 (a 901 if you can find one) and then look at the current 997. Show me any single line on the car that matches.

.

Found one yet?

As for other Porsches - the 914 was a pretty radical departure from the 911 wasn't it? And the 924. And the 944. And the 928. And the 968.

Personally I think Porsche peaked with the last of the A Series shorter wheelbase cars. If I could have any Porsche, it'd be a '67-68 911R. Very rare though (20 made IIRC).

But the 997 is a good looking car. I definitely prefer it to the 993 and 996 generations that preceded it.

They both definately have the same "look", I don't think he's being silly at all.

Thank-you for just making my point.

They look similar. You can look at the early car, and tell that the later one comes from the same manufacturer. But not one single line on the old car matches one on the newer car. Roofline - different. Front end - different. Rear - different. Wheelarches - different.

It isn't 'lazy designing' - it's brand identity. And Porsche don't suddenly have to come up with something that looks radically different just to placate folks that want to moan and grumble about how each Porsche model has more than a few common design features.

Aah, I see I misunderstood his post, I'm actually on your side JRS! You're welcome for the confirmation!

It's growing on me, most definitely. I hated it to start but now I'm thinking its definitely not so bad

I'm strangely drawn to it. a lot of cars do not come across well in photos, this is something I would love to see in the flesh.

Apologies for the old thread bump, but it was the first which had Panamera in the title.

I wasn't keen on these at all from the photos I'd seen, but then I walked past one today.

I liked it :(

I've seen a couple of thesee pottering about. They look pretty special in the metal IMO.

I agree that you need to see one in the flesh to fully appreciate it, but having said that I don't think I'd ever call one good looking.

don't forget the maserati quattroporte..

although tbh if you're getting one of those you're not really look at the sensible german options
