Ms new console codenamed "phoenix"

I love the completely pulled-out-of-an-orifice comments about each manufacturer.

Just what I was thinking :D

I think 2010 for any console manufacturer is way too soon considering the credit crunch (Nintendo may well be printing money currently, but can they be sure there will be sufficient purchasing interest in 18 months time or so - I very much doubt it)

Its also worthy of note I think that it would take 6 months to a year after the "boom" (opposite to crunch lol) for any console to be readily available even if it was fully designed before the crunch occured, therefore depending on the length of the crunch could be very old hardware and not worth manufacturing)

Maybe my hypothesis is completely wrong - but my way of thinking is that even if the markets turned completely around tomorrow and the boom started, it wouldnt really be safe to consider anything other than a blip before June next year at the earliest, and really a year before people are willing to waste any kind of serious money on a new console or other non-necessities /luxuries

Cool, thanks...I then clicked the HD-DVD link and read Toshiba, so MS just used it. Also that Sony wasn't the main contributor to BR. :)

EDIT: And the fact that Toshiba have abandoned it would suggest it's rather a silly idea for MS to use it for game discs in the future would it not?

No problem mate. I really don't see MS using HD-DVD media for future consoles, they will probably just pay the licence fees for bluray while will be cheaper than developing a proprietary format.

How that then ? is band of brothers badly done on BR ?

No, just saying it's not worth buying PS3 for just 1 Blu-ray boxset. I don't agree, I think it looks much better than upscaled crap. Just saying if you can't afford/justify a PS3 then that is the only options you have if you own a 360.

Agreed - I cant see anyone relying wholly on downloads in the near future (without risking a huge dip in purchases) - and I dont mean one game available just as a d/l, I mean all software on one format

PSP might do it, but even that is a no-no in my opinion, although being on a small screen all the d/l's would be tiny in comparison to even a X360 game, I still think wireless is too flaky and slow for something so (comparatively large)

Whichever company does downloads and physical media, giving me the choice, and allowing me to use any HDD I like will be the first to get my money, most likely Sony.

Doesn't quite work like that I'm afraid. :p

Why? its not like days of old where the hardware has to be developed by scratch.

They can easily use existing last gen PC hardware for minimal cost as it doesnt need any development time, really...
Would be shocked if consoles didnt end up moving in the "PC hardware in a box" Direction .. the differences between the 2 are already getting more grey and grey with each generation.

-edit-

I heard somewhere that MS is still getting payments for the usage of the Codec used in blue-ray anyway? wouldnt this pretty much make the cost of BR Licence nill?

the 360 is a good machine - but considering everything I wouldnt touch the next MS console for the first 18 months + until they sort out its reliability....

the X360 is already pc in a box - and they will probably continue in this way (and there is nothing at all wrong with this approach), however I cant see any reason for Sony to move over to pc-like componants (and they would probably have SERIOUS compatability issues with current gen games, ps3 apps like Home etc) I just cant see it making any sense for them to move over to the latest AMD/Intel cpu etc

Im also not 100% sure, but not all premium encoded BR's are VC-1 (even though it maybe a popular choice, there are other options that would give less $ to MS....if necessary/required)

Its probably safe to say that the next xbox will be bulletproof. You don't think they are stupid enough to make the same mistake do you?

Seeing as scary did it, I'll also put my preferred launch titles:
Halo 4 / a new bungie halo game
Infinity ward call of duty
Fable 3
GTA 5
Splinter cell game

I hope they allow for a mouse to be used in games or atleast have some games that require them. I would love the play an RTS on my 360 like Endwar but i just dont like using a controller for it.

btw my launch or near launch list will be (hopefully).

GTA5
Forza 3
Gears of War 3
Halo 4
Some new Platformer from Rare.

well as there's no more metal gear, and depending on how the new final fantasy game turns out (don't like the last batch where TBC was replaced with dodgy real-time), ie it would need to be ****ing brilliant.

All my console/game franchise alliances die with this generation.

Should be cool to see whats invented for the next :p

Besides, there'll be a warranty. MS responded to the whole RROD thing by offering extra cover for that. I think they dealt with a difficult situation VERY well.

I'm very interested to see how they deal with the upcoming difficult situation, which is that with the 360 now becoming over 3 years old on some territories, some people are no longer covered for the 3rrod.

MS have admitted the fault is a design flaw, but will now be charging some people that suffer from it for repair. I bet they'll tack on another couple of years or else some (the yanks) will kick up a huge fuss.
