Ms new console codenamed "phoenix"

Preferred Launch titles for me:

FIFA (insert year)
GTA 5
Call of Duty (insert number)
(Insert name of uber awesome RPG which is a mix of Oblivion/Fable2/Fallout etc.) :)

Don't want much do I? :p

Well The Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim as it is known currently is in production but the only source seen seems to indicate a 360/PS3/PC launch so that might not be possible unless they move over production.

Without any information, and purely off the back of the 360, MS can be gaurenteed a purchase from me of their next console.

Same here. I'm definitely NOT buying a PS4 at launch, no matter what. Once bitten, twice shy. 360 has performed solidly from the first day, PS3 took nearly two years to hit its stride, and we all know Sony is going to be late as **** again, and completely out of the loop for yet another generation running.

As for Nintendo... don't get me started.

MS will get my money again on their next machine. My launch day machine lasted absolutely ages and bit the dust just over 2.5yrs since it was purchased. I then fixed it up and it now lives downstairs. The HDMI 360 I have here has gone for just over a year and a half now with no issues.

I have had more solid gaming done on the 360 then I could have ever done on the PC, which has had a lack of decent titles for years now aside from RTS games. The 360's launch titles blew me away and created such an impression on me. It's hard to move from that.

I'm very interested to see how they deal with the upcoming difficult situation, which is that with the 360 now becoming over 3 years old on some territories, some people are no longer covered for the 3rrod.

MS have admitted the fault is a design flaw, but will now be charging some people that suffer from it for repair. I bet they'll tack on another couple of years or else some (the yanks) will kick up a huge fuss.

Cant some one fill me in on what the design flaw was?

The most common problem was apparently this:

Because of the way the Xbox 360 is constructed, this may result in stresses building up between the delicate ball grid array solder joints of the CPU and GPU and the motherboard, causing them to break. The problem is exacerbated by the specific type of lead-free solder used, a type which is more brittle than the older tin/lead solder that was used in the past and the GPU's location directly underneath the DVD drive. Microsoft needed to make room for the DVD Drive, so they shrunk the heat sink.

They have since then redesigned the cooling components, but rrods do still occur and people will not be happy having to fork out to repair it considering the errors history.

More information about the various other faults can be found here:

As i say, due to design revisions, most of these problems have been addressed. However, because MS folded in the past and extended the warranty, people will be expecting similar treatment now that the 3 year warranty is beginning to run out.

Obviousley this is just the guys opinion he has posted on his blogg and it contains no real facts.

They will use massively enhanced versions of the same GPUs and CPUs and will have a lot more memory. Backwards compatability will be 100%.
I remember reading that Sony wanted to be able to use the Cell in future consoles as it's designed so that they could bring out the PS4 with multiple Cell's to dramatically improve performance. Thus cutting both R&D and production costs on the next console. - I read this before the PS3 was even launched though and haven't read it anywhere else since so it could be wrong!
Nintendo are in the tightest corner. The Wii is looking very tired with its lack of HD TV support and lack of hard drive.
Personally I can see Nintendo bringing out itterations of the Wii rather than a new console. Much like they have done with their handheld consoles in the past. Maybe they will just release a Wii HD with storage built in?

Microsoft are obviously working towards a two model range with the 360 and the phoenix both available for many years................so don’t be surprised if the phoenix arrives sooner than the analysts are predicting. The market is ripe for a premium machine that is up to four or five times more powerful with 100% backwards compatibility.
This wouldn't surprise me at all and you can virtually guarantee that it will be a lot more reliable too. With regards to some comments about Microsoft being in profit on the 360 - don't forget that they decided to move the cost of the extended guarantee into the previous fiscal year so that this years accounts look very healthy - over the life of the 360 though they are still massively in the red.
You have to wonder about Sony. The losses on the Playstation PS3 fiasco have wiped out the profits they made with PS2.
Exactly the same thing happened the generation before at this stage in the consoles life! I think the PS3 is still quite early in it's lifecycle tbh and the one thing which is holding it back is price. As soon as it drops below the £200 point then sales will pick up - although it's clear now that they definately have some work to do if they want to be the market leaders again.

Just my two pence worth ;)

I wont be buying any of them for at least 6 months :p
Xbox - reliability, i think it is foolish to take the plunge without seeing how it pans out first, once bitten etc...

PS - really depends on the launch lineup whether i buy it or not

Nintendo - solid console using tried and tested parts but the million addon approach really put me off

Microsoft wouldnt dare make the same mistake, its cost them a fortune.

The first xbox was bulletproof, they should have gone for the same ethos of not caring what it looked like.

I'm sure they did all the standard product testing last time & it still happened. This is not meant to be (that much ;)) of a dig at Microsoft - but let's face it, they do have a track record of releasing 'buggy' products that need a lot of work, post-release (Operating Systems anyone?!!).

And before I'm accused of being a fanboy, I have owned both the original XBox & the 360 - as well as numerous Microsoft operated PC's.

From what I read, they knew of the product failures but because they had to get out of the door before Sony, they ploughed on regardless looking at fixing the hardware as they went.
