IS THIS 4870 good to buy?

resolution i have with 19inch screen 1440x900, yes max AA+AF.

do you know where i can get Direct X10?

had max Temperature 60C on full load.

i think i have one issue,..in ati catalyze it says that i have 950mhz memory clock, but it has to be 3800mhz,.. why it shows like this?

thanks

well...i played tomb rifder about 30min...everything on max with full AA, etc...runs great... 20% fun speed-65C...
well, can someone tell me about direct x 10.1? where i can find it?
and is it OK, that it is showing 950mhz, but not 3800mhz than?

just wanted to ask, thinking of getting 4870 1gb palit card from ebay £200 or so, my question is would my system handle it(specs in sig)? or would it bottle next because of the processor?,..i'm just thinking single core cpu with good overclocking, but its older now and might casue conflict with new designed architecture chip design on newer gfx cards?..opinions, suggestions of system changes would be welcome..

i think u will have to upgrade PSU to 550W-600W ...
about other i think it should be fine...but me not familiar with this mobo...if its too old maybe you will have to upgrade, but when i hade MSI CUBA (really old mobo with X1950 it was fine), but you won't get highest performance from 4870 with old components

pope your power supply will easily run the card. b-star it wasnt the amount of power that was bad about your PSU its the brand and them been known to go bang. Idk how that CPU runs compared to say a intel P4 but im pretty sure it will bottle neck it. Your PSU seems fine but if anything your CPU would be holding you back.

yep, i know,..but 500W it is minimum for 4870 thou...
everyone recomends about 550W for extra power (for extra upgrade, etc)

oh, want to ask you...you have 4870 in crossfire,..how performance increased?
i O/C'd my CPU to 3,8ghz...and i can play on maximum with my 4870 with no AA on highest resolution...

Don't do it. You can get the same card from a proper retailer for cheaper. You also get some comeback if it breaks in the first year.

Your psu will be fine. My rig is drawing 320w at the wall and that includes monitor/watercooling/speakers and a light.

ah ok, so change cpu, which means a change of mobo as well..time to check other posts out..
will check out the retailers as pastymuncher suggested...for 4870 1gb.(any links to cheapness?)
hah, my cpu still sells for quite a lot of money on a famous auction site....did cost me $700 back then...(was thinking of selling parts to recoup some costs towards upgrade)
cheers for the advice..

What CPU are you running? Its not worth it at your res. i had a 19" screen and i didn't get very good fps but as soon as i stuck it up to 1900/1200 the cards show there worth. 22" screen or below i wouldn't worry about Xfire just yet, just add another when yours starts to stuggle.

you can also search for xpertvision as its a rebranded palit card
eg XpertVision ATI Radeon HD4870 SONIC 1GB
however it may only have 2xdvi and 1 display port
the palit has 1dvi 1dp 1hdmi 1 vga
might also be wise to wait until the budged statement as vat may be reduced by 5% ?

my first short REVIEW!

comparing to X1950 pro, it is louder ... i have installed CATALYZE 8.11 , but still do not have direct X 10.
someone can tell where i can download it?

i have tried on COD4, everything on MAX, runs Perfect.
tried on Crysis Warhead, everything on HIGH was smoothly.

a bit later write fool review

You do have Dx10 if you are running Vista, and glad your enjoying the card. :)
