Boy killed by deodorant fumes

I am utterly dumbfounded that nobody in his family thought it might be a good idea to learn why he had collapsed on the first occasion, and perhaps seek medical advice.

The whole thing is as weird as it is tragic.

Even if he had sought medical advice the first time, I doubt anyone would have figured out it he'd collapsed due to his deodourant. Weird, not convinced either.

Whys a 12 year old using deodorant anyway?

For the same reason 12 year old girls wear make-up and low-cut dresses. To emulate "celebrity" culture.

Seems kids aren't allowed, encouraged or want to be kids anymore. :(
Adults don't neccesarilly do that stuff to emulate celebrity culture. Kids (and everyone else) do it usually to attract people or at least be decent. Young teens are normally pretty sweaty so I would say it's actually a good thing that this kid made an effort. Unfortunately he went overboard.

I guess this could have been prevented if the parents had a little more common sense.

Actually I reckon it's more about wanting to copy adults, rather than "celebrity" culture per se.

Look around and you'll see kids reaching for the privileges of adulthood. Curiously, society seems quite happy to extend these privileges to children of younger and younger ages, yet without imposing the corresponding responsibilities.

Recipe for disaster.

I would hazard a guess he just didn't want to smell of BO.

I have heard of this happening before. Surely it must be some kind of allergy.

Well yes, but spraying it all over your clothes until you pass out and sloshing gel through your hair... at the age of 12... is simply abnormal.

Quite possibly.

Not sure which neck of the woods you live in Evangelion, but kids do that from the age of 10 these days. (Edit: In fact that tadbit is probably out of date by 8 years).
