In a game like WoW that is considered to have both solid PvE and PvP content which servers have the highest populations - PvE or PvP?

With PvP gamers being the most vocal on most forums I tend to get the impression that it is PvP all the way but that may not be the reality.

chris I am curious if that is your opinion or the reality. :D I do not play WoW or any other MMO at the moment but I would love to know the real facts regarding this. Do you know the number of PvE servers compared with the PvP servers. I am at work so I have no way of looking it up.

Depends in Warhammer it was the normal servers "PvE", as these funneled the PvP players into set areas rather than spread about thinly.

In Conan there was a good mix, wow is the same too - a mix.

If your wondering if you can still find a highly populated active realm, even though you only like PVE then yes that's possible.

In the past I have played mostly PvE and it is something I prefer. It is good to hear that there is a good mix between the 2 because having a choice between different play styles is important. As a PvE orientated player I always get the impression that we are made to feel like the minority by PvP players whom are far more vocal and demanding on most forums. I often get the feeling that our voice is not heard over the cries of PvP players. I may be wrong but it's just my perception of the MMORPG community.

DAoC it was the normal servers, not the PvP servers. Because in DAoC pvp servers, it was all out PvP.. anywhere and every where (except for capital cities,) and realms didn't matter, either. You could attack your fellow allies.

Warhammer, there is no PvE only. The entire game is designed for PvP. The only difference between the PvP (aka ORvR) and the normal (aka Core) servers, is that you must be flagged for RvR on Core by entering a designated RvR zone, where as the ORvR you are flagged all the time.

In EVE you've got no choice... there is only one server, and even in the PvE areas (Empire Space) you are not guaranteed safety :p

Vanguard, personally I thought the PvP servers were more populated, but I can't say for sure.

In WoW it is definitely PvP.

I think there are more servers - but not sure if actual population is larger as many PvP servers are recommended/low. Also having played US WoW their "full"/high servers are always PvE with the exception of oceanic PvP servers.

I have just started Wow for the first time and created a 1hr old character in PvE. Before I develop this character, is it better for me to switch to PvP instead? I want to play PvE but with PvP as default against opposing races. In similar fashion to Eve, where even in safe area you are not protected from attack.

Also, what server do most of you play on?

There's about 30% more PvE characters than PvP characters according to Warcraftrealms for WoW.

There might be a more PvP servers but many are only medium capacity where all the PvE realms are at about 90% capacity.

On PvE servers, you can 'flag' yourself for PvP which when turned off lasts for 5 minutes. You can't attack another player unless they are flagged too.

The only real PvP on PvE servers tends to be either battlegrounds or arena..both instanced.

You can loot players in WoW, only in battlegrounds, and its for a pittyful amout of silver.

They said they are going to build exp from PvP into WoW at some point soon.

PvP servers are horrible sometimes.

So what is the RPG server for? Is that PVE or PVP or a mingle of both?
Also, can you loot the loser in PvP?

RPG servers are for people who want to role play rather than just play the mmo grind. They tend to be far nicer servers to play on in my experience.
