as said, it includes asian gamers, which is a HUGE market in terms of WOW, who might buy 1 hour gametime in an internet cafe and not play again ever, or for 6 months, where they again pay £1 for a couple hours. Those all count as "subscribers", which isn't accurate, the number is still VERY big, but not quite that bit. I would also assume that there are a few countries that maybe pay more than us, but the UK is normally very expensive in terms of subscription, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if the USA players pay $9, which up till recently was a very very different number to ours, its still significantly cheaper(if that is the current cost).
then, probably in the next several months at least 6-7mil sales at £15 or $25 or something for the expansion. They make big big money.
Its also worth pointing out that while this makes, maybe, 500mil plus a year, its one game, nothing is remotely close to as successful in terms of money raked in. Most games aren't subscription based, most are a higher but one off fee that make substantially less money.
The 500-600mil profits it makes a year might be match by 5-6 films, a great year for films with Spiderman like numbers and 2-3 films might match it.
Its a touch easy to say game's make more money than films tbh, you can't just compared WoW to the biggest film profits ever and say, well this ones bigger, so its easily winning. Also most sales figures you hear for films aren't complete, the general numbers posted are the US box office sales, the money only just starts to role in there. THe porn industry is a subsection of the film industry and is a multi billion dollar a year industry, hell the porn industry probably dwarf's both gaming and normal film industry.
