How much blizzard make a month/year from World of Warcraft

Dunno about that, but have you looked at the WotLK manual? the entire 2nd half of it is taken up by the credits, there must be 100's of people involved in it's development.

Im gonna speculate with this in a sense that their costs would be getting quite steep in regards to the expansions(since they try to deliver them in a relatively short period of time).

But anyway, whatever loads of cash they may make, fair play to them. After all, Blizzard is a game industry's success story and not an average company. We also see what Chelsea or Man Utd players earn but many footballers end up in obscurity too. Its normal state of affairs.

Hey, at least it weeds out the ignorant people ;)

ignorant? every long term wow subscriber can be considered an addict or stupid.

you do the same treadmill over and over again like rats in a lab but the rats pay for the walls to be painted every 6 months.

then again maybe even a rat would get bored eventually

You're the kind of person who gets their nuts kicked up their throat on dragons den and then wonders why spouting off those kind of numbers :o

Just to clarify your equation:
Amount of subscribers (rounded to the nearest million) x the 1 month subscription cost = $$$ Blizzard's bank balance.

That couldn't be anymore wrong unless you added some kind of surrealist mathmatics to it.

I don't know what course you're doing but the only way you're going to get away with that is if most of your day is spent with your "lecturer" teaching how to draw pictures of mummy and daddy with crayons. Then occasionally someone writes a big number in the red crayon and shouts "this is how much games make" whilst pulling at their hair through an ill fitted safety helmet.

Great post.

Why a course like this exists at a university is beyond me. Why student loans and government grants go towards such an useless education is also beyond me.

to the OP , your presuming that evey place wow is out in , UK EU china etc pays the same which is not ture , also i presume thease things are taxed still , Blizzard do probaly make huge amount of money a month but not the full 9 quid of each person , severs , customer support all need to be paid for , i did vist the Office in cork were had a bunch of new GMs last i knew there getting payed 22K in euros think time by the number of GM's they have , then u got the staff for accounts etc

all in all yer they have a hug turnover and make a nice profit but its allso a huge operation that need to be kept running and so need to be paid for . i for one glady pay the cash for the past 4 years as it good value for money in terms of amount played to cost with little downtime and good servise when ive needed it , quality pays after all lol

I love to think of what the quality of this degree-level essay will be, when its author is having to ask on the internet what £1,188,000,000 is in 'figures.'

Is this an economics class? Advanced accounting?

What university are you at Gustov?

doubtful they arent serpeate servers ,one server runs multiple versions of the games server side software and they dont need to be very high spec as shown from people who host illegal wow servers on not very good computers

I do contract work for an MMORPG over in ASIA and that statement is far from true.

For security reasons alone they have multiple servers and they aren't allowed to run more than one instance of a server on there. They have multiple database servers because having 1000s of read/writes a second on a single server (no matter what RAID set up you have/number of HDDs) isn't going to be a particularly good idea. They've also got a good few number of servers purely for backup reasons.

Let's not forget that private servers don't run the official software so you have no idea on how much resources they use nor do you know how each individual server is set up.

In WoW's case, you're probably looking at one or two servers per realm + a dedicated database server or two per realm + a dedicated backup servers per realm. I've never played WoW nor have I looked at how many realms they've got but I assume it's quite a lot.

It's appropriate for GCSE Business Studies.
