HELP!!! Overclocking Q6660 in MSI P7N SLI Platinum 750i SLI chipset

i havent testing switching off the EIST but i notice my AVG auto scan is running and i open Winamp to play MUSIC and CPU-Z jump to 3.4Ghz. Now i get it. If my system is idle it will run in lower speed which is less Voltage. That is simply amazing. It's like the DOT mode. really. So if i play Games like FarCry 2 or Crysis i guess it will jump to 3.4Ghz.
Thanks again man your a Genious. I neve knew there's a hidden option in CPU feature by pressing F4 i guess i didn't really read the manual well lol. But was it ok to turn off EIST? so it will run 3.4Ghz always?

Whats C1E enabled does?

I think EIST just enhances C1E, you don't have to have it enabled. C1E is the function that will lower multiplier and voltage while idle, not EIST :)

Oh i see so i see its all clear now to me. are you personally running your [email protected]? Sorry to bother you again. but i wanna try 3.6Ghz if you don't mind can give me settings for it pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee please.

Also I can't OC my memory more than 760Mhz? i think it might cause unstable isn't? or at least bring it back to 800Mhz. I heard some people managed to OC the memory I've got to 1066 with no problem.

I just notice your signature and your running your [email protected] and your RAM@800Mhz more stable for [email protected]?

I'm running mine with a lower multi and higher fsb, to get 1:1 with my 800mhz RAM, I also read somewhere that Core 2 CPU's run better with higher fsb's. Your fsb at the moment is 380, which is why I said you should run 760. Sometimes it makes it more stable.

I don't run 3.6 all the time because I'm only on air cooling at the moment and to be totally honest, I cant tell the difference between 3.2 and 3.6 during games.

I guess you could try going higher with your RAM if you really want to. The BIOS will round off the memory value to the nearest ratio, so if you put in like 900 and it auto adjusts to 892, dont worry its normal.

I see. shall i change anything in voltages? when i increase my RAM to 900?
And i wanna try your setting as well.

I'm gonna try lower my ratio to 8 and how many FSB should i put to get 400x8 sorry man i dont know how to calculate =/ can you tell me the formula?

FSB = FSB clock/4

Your RAM box will have a voltage range on it, I don't know what as I have different RAM than you. Don't go above their max whatever you do. For something like 900 I don't think you will need more voltage, though 1000 or 1066mhz might need an extra notch upwards.

i see thank you one more thing sorry again too much question. I'm still a newbit in OC =(

Whats the formula to get 1:1 FSB:DRAM ratio i heard that its best for OC

I want to try to [email protected] even thou im in Air Cooling too then maybe switch back to 3.2 same as you with 800Mhz to get 1:1.

but i dont know the settings for it =(

how to get 3.Ghz with a ratio of 1:1 still
i know that if i set my FSB to 1600 with multiplier 9 i will get 400x9 = 3.6Ghz but my system might not boot if my ratio is not 1:1

For 3.6, go for something along these lines- (It might not be stable, mine took a lot of fiddling to get it stable, this is just a rough guideline)

fsb clock 1600
ram freq 800
cpu ratio 9

5-5-5-15 ram

cpu voltage +0.1750
ram voltage 2.1
fsb/vtt voltage 1.4
nb 1.44
sb 1.56

For 3.2 with 8x multi, just change cpu voltage to 0.1500 and cpu ratio to 8.

note: changing the cpu ratio might not change the multiplier, as some of the p7n's have dodgy BIOS's, I had to flash mine to get the multiplier to change.. so it might just be easier for you to run at 380x9, but put your ram at 950.

That way it will be on a 4:5 ratio with your fsb, and you dont have to underclock your ram that way.

Hey again MooMoo =D i tried 3.6Ghz and tried your setup i managed to get to boot logo circle just about to go to desktop with a cracky sound in my speaker and after that BSOD =/ and i heard a strange click on my Case. is that normal? and then i tried your 3.2 with 8x with 800Mhz and got 1:1 ratio and it work and stable as for now thats my setup while typing this. i updated my BIOS to latest so I have no problem chaging the CPU ratio.

Shall i increase the voltage of fsb/vtt and CPU voltage? in one notch to be able to stablize 3.6ghz?

It's most likely cpu voltage thats lacking for 3.6, you probably need more. If you want you could try +0.200v though you haven't been checking temps so I wouldnt advise it.

Download something like CoreTemp, and check your temperatures under heavy use.

Sorry for not posting my temp. I use SpeedFan to check my temp.
when i tried the 3.4Ghz settings you gave which works well and stable.
i tried running Prime95 full load@ 60+ and 30+ idle.

I havent tried the 3.6 again as I've been busy. btw one question. do you think installing another 9800GTX+ will be ok? I want to SLI. for all my components i gave above. will my 750watts PSU can hold it?

hello MooMoo i power my PC this morning and my PC will freeze in windows loading screen with all the setting you gave me 3.2,3.4 and 3.6Ghz

so i switch it to 3Ghz. again
i think i managed to have it stable yesterday the 3.2 and 3.4 setting you gave me cause the CPU is already warm up for a bit.

I learned from my previos PC that i need to heat up my CPU for a while till i can managed to OC it.

Is there anyway to solve this. shall i increase the voltage of CPU or RAM? or FSB/VTT.

Btw i managed to stable 3.6ghz last night but have to put my CPU voltage to 0.2500
but enabled EIST and C1E so it wont run 3.6 always only when needed and its stable.

But this morning its not stable. how can i solve this

If its not stable at 3.2 or 3.4 you probably need a bit more cpu voltage. Every Q6600 is different, I just gave you a rough estimate.

like he said it's a rough estimate!!! you have to do whats good for you! copying other ppl's settings is at your own risk! every bit of hardwear is different! you will do more damage jumping in and cloning other ppl's acheivements...take your time it's not a race my friend.;)

Thank you guys. Atm I'm running back to 3Ghz as its the best stable atm. I will slightly take my time Ocing it to 3.2 or 3.4 stable. nvm 3.6 lol unless i have water cooling. Thanx again guys.
