nope it was the FX5800Ultra or leafblower if you ever heard it.

Absolutely terrible card.

Nvidia did claw back some degree of respect with the FX5950Ultra and also the 5900XT which was an excellent mid range card.

Whilst not the biggest shakeup - I think one of the cards that changed everything was the 6800Ultra. It changed everything as it made everyone forget about the FX series and also made people realise Nvidia could make a decent card.

Then we have the obvious 9700pro which brought ATI back into the game.
 
Ah I miss the click.

I certainly don't miss that funny vga dongle the Voodoo cards required.

I even had an SLI Voodoo 2 at one point (this is going back what...9/10 years iirc?) but I agree, the Voodoo(1) was absolutely revolutionary.

Remember being hugely impressed by the Riva TNT2 Ultra card, as a single card solution too round about the same time. Cousin of mine had a special edition Falcon Northwest TNT2u, with an "amazing" clock speed somewhere on the region of 200mhz core and 230mhz RAM.

Ahh the days...
 
Its got to be the Voodoo 3DFX cards for me, then the TNT2 and finally the Geforce cards.

Playing Wipeout 2097 and Quake at 640x480 at the time was something very special.

the geforce 3 was a monster when it came out
£250 i paid, had to wash a lot of dishes to get that much money
 
i remember the old voodoo 2... i think it was 8mb, it had a small vga lead that connected between the primary agp and the voodoo pci card :) and i remember certain games that would not work properly untill the voodoo card was selected as the primary card in the graphics settings.... brings back memorys.
 
Of course it was the original Voodoo, in the form of an Orchid Righteous in my case, that changed everything. Whilst there have been some big leaps since, nothing came close to the revolution the Voodoo started.

Unfortunately I don't have my Voodoo any more but do still have a complete, boxed Voodoo2 12MB in the attic.

My vote is for the voodoo to, although the voodoo 3 was my first proper 3d card, you can't deny that the 3d card market started with this card, if it had failed it's doubtful the PC could have continued as a suitable platform for proper gaming

While solitare and chess are nice, i'd rather play things like battlefield 2 and company of heroes
 
3Dfx Voodoo - nuff said!

Although my first ever slice of graphics-accelerated pie was through the NVIDIA Riva 128 4MB lol. Was part of my mum's 1,600quid Gateway PC 10 years ago and when I ran a demo of TOCA Touring Cars I was blown away! Had no idea PC's could beat the consoles!

I bought a Diamond Monster Voodoo2 card after a few months just for Quake II and Unreal.

Great times. :cool:
 
i would have to say the 8800gtx just because it STILL holds its own and hasnt been outdated too much

consider how long a normal card lifespan is and then look at how well this does in comparison

I agree, it was the first all in one solution iirc. Still got mine and it still works :D

The Voodoo 1 changed the whole graphical face of gaming though
 
Diamond monster and Righteous 3dfx Voodoo1 was 'the' card that changed/directed gaming to where it is now. qlquake goodness :P

LMAO total nostalgia trip when you mentioned that! It was pretty scary when you installed it for the first time, i thought mine had popped :eek:
