Im happy to hear about the 15% VAT drop, Nice to know everything isnt going to cost as much as it usaly dose, and thanks to OCUK for giving it to us a week early!:D

Yeah, but I know of shops that are just going to keep the prices the same and raise the pre-VAT prices.

Quite disgusting behaviour imo, but yeah this wouldn't surprise me

Ltd companies are not affected by VAT changes, its just a different amount of money that goes from the consumer to the government, but for them to decide that they are entitled to a slice of the saving at the customers' expense kinda defeats the whole point of reducing the VAT in the first place

Can't really see McDonalds dropping the price of a meal from £4.49 to £4.39 but we'll wait and see...........

It doesn't - it means the business gets more money, which will give it more cash so it's less likely to go bust or lay people off. It doesn't really matter who benefits from the cut, it's a cut that will increase the amount of money in the economy and encourage growth. That's Keynes's theory, anyway.

apprently a pair of mens socks will cost you 8p less when the 15% VAT hits.

REMEMBER THIS DAY PEOPLE !!!

Wow 2.5%

Then the taxes go up and everyone pays more. Its pathetic. I hope this country dies on its ass so Labour NEVER, EVER get in again.

Complete idiots.

I can't find any sarcasm in your post so I will point out that VAT is not charged on food.

And I will point out that VAT is charged on prepared food. No vat in your supermarket for food ingredients.

That's why the favourite VAT registered customer of HM customs is the local chippie.

Everything they buy has no vat on it but 100% of what they sell has vat on it and 99.99% of customers are members of the public and do not claim the VAT back like a business would.

Hence a chippie or other fast food outlet gets corporation tax/personal taxation on everything they make plus an extra 17.5% tax for the coffers.

VAT is charged on food provided in the course of catering. This also applies to hot food eaten off the premises. It doesn't apply to cold food to be eaten off the premesis.

This is why at Pret-a-manger, they charge you a different amount for your sandwich depending on whether you're eating in or taking away.

And Labour are to blame for the current world economic crisis?

Its not truely global, and... Labour are to blame for OUR predicament.

The FSA was their idea, it failed. Light touch regulation failed. Northern Rock response failed. Labour = epic fail.

Borrowing MORE and rewriting fiscal borrowing policy ??!!?
Its a comedy sketch you couldn't even dream of.

Vince Cable was predicting this sort of thing for years. He actually knows what he's talking about.

Gordon Brown talks about all this 10 years of experience, but its 10 years of total and utter fail. Nice move with the Gold Gordon. What a complete fanny.

I hope he gets assasinated.

This puts our country into even more debt, now who do you think is going to have to pay it all back in a couple of years, aye. :p

You pay £3.20 for a pair of socks? I get 5 for £3.:p

hehe mine are made from the finest silk woven in the mountains. Then tended by a sweet innocent female she will stroke them till they are fine and smooth enough for a king to wear !!!!

Only then are they shot into space so that the lack of mavity does some crazy science thing im yet to understand. Then comes back to earth after 5 years in space. Then to be packed in a box with pearls shaken about a bit. Then delivered to the shop where i can pick them up :D
