it's perfectly possible to make a few £ from it, depends who you're targetting as to how well that will last you. planning on just going it alone? do you have the design and technical skills?

having said that it's possible, one thing companies wont be doing at the moment is spending money where they dont need to, and unless your website drastically changes their position in their market then it's probably something you dont need. so generally yes it's still feasible, right now during whatever you want to call the economic situation, you'd probably struggle

Are you any good?

Do you have a decent portfolio?

How are you intending to get clients?

Technical yes, not so sure about actual design, but i think i have an artistic streak.

I agree with the above, feasible of course. To be honest there's probably not much money in making static websites, but you might still find the odd company that have no idea about "the internet" and will pay you decent money for one.

As for anything more serious you really do need to know what your doing, or else your product is likely to look pathetic next to something done by a firm that has some relatively experienced designers.

I am pretty good at php, css, html, can do asp ok, ajax, xml, database etc etc. It would be a huge task on my own though, a team of 3-5 would be very nice.

Anybody interested in an online parternship? :p

I'd say to distinguish yourself from just a kid pretending they can freelance is to get an office space/spare room/desk share and possibly a partner, so there's always someone there to take clients calls.

If you want to start speculatively, emailing SMEs with bad websites you think you could improve may generate a return.

You need to think about who you're targeting, what market you're targeting and get a bloody good professional portfolio set up.

I disagree. We're absolutely booming at the moment. Lots of companies switching their advertising spend from print to online.

Depends if you're good though.

Ah, I see, it was merely speculation I'm nowhere near marketing or tough budget decisions in my current job and haven't been for the past 9 months
