I am looking to buy a new pc, mainly for rendering CGI and being able to multi task a hell of a lot quicker, I use 10-15 programs at a time sometimes. My current rig I blue screen so many times because it just cannot keep up with the amount of stuff I do, memory issues. Or everything seizes. Also I'll be installing vista 64bit

I was going to get :
Intel Core i7 2.6ghz
Asus p6t deluxe Intel x58
Geforce GTX 260
Corsair 6 GB 1333 MHz
Coolermaster Stacker 830 Evo
Coolermaster Real power 700w

After reading the comments though, In another thread here I'm thinking I may go for a lesser budget and save some money for now. I only need a fast pc to last me until September, Then I get like £2500 university grant which I can blast on the new AMD/i7 since I have no loans to pay.

I do need to get something though this week, and now I'm confused as hell what to buy, I only need them parts: CPU, MB, GFX, RAM, CASE, PSU.

Another thing, I won't be gaming at all on it, I may play a few but they'll work on any machines like mmo and demo's. It's mainly for design work.

Could anyone suggest me some good parts, budget around £1k. Should I go for an AMD Quad for now? Help! :(

My current setup is:
AMD X2 6000 3ghz
8800 gts nvidia 320mb
2gb ram, idk speed.
1tb hhd.

I'll be giving most of it away though.

I wondering weather to buy a Phenom at the moment, then upgrade in september.

You might want to find out if you get your uni grant all at once, or split up per term, rather than as a lump sum.

Probably not 'worth it' right now in your position if your going to need the money for other things at uni.. you know.. like for paying rent? (Don't want to poke my nose in here too much, but having been to uni I know what it is like :))

My friend just gone to the uni im going to and he got 2k all in 1 go, luckily im living at home with parents so i wont have any rent to pay, i basically get all the money to myself - a few bills (internet etc) that i pay myself, but i have a smalljob that tops them up :D

You'd be better off staying away from i7, and spending the money on a good core2 set-up, probably quad core.

You don't need a £275 motherboard either.

i'd get a q6600 or a different intel quad core ~£120
a P45 motherboard, a Gigabyte one ~£85
8gb ocz ddr2 6400 ram ~£80
western digital 640gb Blue ~£50

Those look like old prices as from what I can see just about everything has gone up. The #****!!! credit crunch

is the q6600 better than the amd phenom 9960, highest one i think.

to be honest, i couldn't tell you

wait for someone else to answer

i used to only buy AMD, but intel really kicked AMD's butt with the C2 series, so I jumped from Opteron to a Q6600

the ram is less than i said, a P43 is less than i said, the drive is about £4 more and the cpu is about £20 more

:)

My apologies, I just looked at the cpu price. I priced a build a couple of weeks ago and then again today and just about everything has gone up .... depressing as I really need to upgrade :(
