:mad::mad:

wife is in Sri Lanka for training. the first time she went to the beach she got harrassed by the locals. At first it seemed innocent; they'd say things like "take a photo with me", or chuck their kids at her, and ask her to hug them so they could take a photo of it.

Then it progressed to "can we touch your <this>" or "can we touch your <that>"

She left the beach quite scared and shaken, and hasn't been back there since.

Last night she had just walked outside of a restaurant, when, well it was a lot worse than the what happened at the beach, but I dont want to go into details.

Now my wife is understandably incredibly upset. Beyond consoling atm. She made her boss in the UK aware of this. I have read his reply, to which he explicitly states that her safety is the first concern etc etc (so his backside is covered), but undoubtedly implies between the lines that she should stay there for the rest of the training - until just before Christmas.

So now I'm stuck here (UK), feeling absolutely worthless, which by comparison is a million times better than what my wife feels like. I can't do jack **** about anything, bar flying out there which I dont have the money for. And her boss is virtually saying that she wont have a job for too long if she comes back now.

WHAT THE ****!!
:(

Well, I am sure that the local authorities would probably just shrug it off, though the lack of action on behalf of her boss, could well come back to haunt him.

Bummer :(

Has she got any male colleagues out there that she can walk with? If she sticks close to them you can bet the skinnies will leave her the f alone.

I'm sorry to hear that man. I'm almost lost for words in fact. However, if I were in your position I'd advise her to **** the job and come home.

Dam!

I'd probably ghtfot!

Not worth potentially getting raped to keep a job... That or fly out there despite not having much money and being the **** out of the locals

Tell her to come home if she can't cope with the locals.

What is this training she is doing, can't it be done in the UK?

I'd be inclined to agree. Get her home. Sri Lanka is far from a safe place - especially for a female on her own.

Her safety is no.1 priority here & her boss is obviously a muppet here. If it was my missus, I would get her straight back home and tell her to shove the job (if thats their attitude)

As for her boss, I would get in contact with him, and tell him to get his priorities straight. How would he react if it was his wife or partner & their boss had said the same thing to them ?

If she is an employee of his, he shoulders some responsibilty when she is away on company business. If something serious happens to her, he will be partly responsible - and if something happens to her now after him basically forcing her to stay on in a dangerous location, he could be on very dodgy ground with regard to how the company looks to the outside world & how any court cases go.

Get her home, her boss cant sack her over it and if he did I'm sure the courts would side with her. Who really expects a female to stay in a country alone after being molested : /

she's been advised to stick closely to the other UK employees that are out there, but they're not even all in the same accomodation atm. I think the only other UK employee that is at the same place is female...

As for the training, it's not something that can't be done here. The company is an international one, and all (or lots) of the new guys from various countries get sent to Sri Lanka.

Crikey, the attitude of her boss sucks.

Get her to come home where she is safe. If her boss gets too arsey, I think he'll find himself in trouble.

Is her boss her outright boss, or does he have superiors? Definitely contact them if he persists in being a tit.

Completely pointless post without telling us what happened. Someone could have brushed by her and accidentally touched a breast with their shoulder for all we know, hard to know what to reply... Do you want advice? Hugs? Bananas?

I can supply all three.

Is pepper spray legal there?

I'd advise buying some pepper spray in case something god forbid does happen. Horrible situation mate :<.

**** the job. People get raped or worse in situations like that. If they can't do something to secure her safety then time to come home IMO.

No job is worth that much.

On a sideline though, can she not get transferred to another hotel where there are males from the company?

I hope I'm not being offensive, but why is she getting so much attention? Is there something about Sri Lankan's and their taste in foreign women that I don't know about?

My thoughts are with you OP of course, I would suggest that she goes home if your boss isn't willing to create an arrangement where she can do her training whilst being in a safe environment.

Get in touch with the British Embassy or consulate - explain the situation and ask if there is someone who can go and see her - for her piece of mind. Then they will speak to the hotel etc and can arrange for her to move rooms and be escorted by hotel security. Thats the easiest way eahead at this stage.
