As a christmas present from the other half i'm looking for a set of in-earphones for my ipod touch. Just wondered if any of you guys could recommend me a good set for around £40.

Thanks

Matt

:D

Cheers, i've tried the search option and didn't find much on the budget i have. So didn't think it would be much of a problem to start a new thread.

If the SE110's are the replacement for the E2C's then i'd be careful. Sound quality was only marginally better than EX71SL's but the smallest earbuds are too large for me, and the cable arrangement was not of the around-the-head arrangement.

The sony EX90's seem to get good reviews may look into these. Are these two the only ones out there around this budget? I know nothing about earphones as im sure you can tell.

Well there is also the Mylarone X3i's, you'll have to google a guy callen Jaben (i think) to order some of them.

The EX85's, but they are well below your budget.

I can only speak for what I've listened to, I'm sure there are more around you budget but I'm not going to suggest things that I haven't used myself as it's foolish.

the ex85's and ex90's sound virtually identical, and i mean so close you'd have to have both pairs in front of you to tell the difference. ex85's are absolutely billy bargains and the best buy under £100 imo.

yes and no. there are times when they sound far too closed in for my liking, almost to the point where im considering buying another pair and leaving them stock.

Just cover the vent holes on them in some way and then pierce a small whole in the covered up vents. Usually using something like cling film or sticky tape. I'm using wax on my pairs that I've smooth over the vent holes and then pierced a small hole in the middle one.

I have both a pair of ex-85's and ex-90's, and I do prefer the ex90's, but it may be because they just look awesome and feel much nicer in my ears compare to the plastic Sony's.

Nice one cheers, i'm thinking of going for the 90's now, they do look nicer and the comfort is quite important to me.

Theres a modding thread of mine on this site and also headfi. The 90's do sound a tiny bit better - I think the only reason for this is that the 90's have foam in the ear channel and the 85's just have a paper cover. One thing to note the 90's are a bit heavier!

the ex085's that came with my walkman had foam filters. also the position of the tube that sits in the ear is in slighty different places on the 085&85 compared to the 90's - they are position horizontally on the 90's but position further down on the others.. this may be the reason for the difference in comfort.

the foam insert is a bit of a moot point anyway when people tell you to remove them lol.

Just had a browse on some famous auction site to see there only 19.99 with £8 postage. Does that sound right?

If you are talking about the ex90s for £20 then yes they will be fake.

If you are talking the Sony MDR-EX85. They can be had for £13.99 delivered from a genuine on-line retailer.

The seller has a lot of auctions for them, they seem to have a good reputation and they make a big deal in pointing out the fake ones compared to the real ones. But i'm not going to risk it.

What should i expect to pay for EX90's then?

The Sennheiser cx300's are quite good for your budget. I own at present Shure SE530, Klipsch Custom 3 & Mylarone. Also owned SE420, E4C, and E2 truck loads of Sony's (of which the best Sony for me were a set that popped in the ear partially and folded away circa 1992/3).

somewhere has the custom 2's rather cheap at the moment circa £50, had to order myself a pair in fact, was too good a bargin to pass up

gjv10212, how do you find your 530's and custom 3's compare to each other?
