How do people learn this? You know, how some people can fall down a flight of stairs uninjured, was used an advert several years back. How would you aquire this skill? It must be a painful process fraught with injury at first

I didn't say I did (though it would be a wicked party trick), was just curious how people would learn it. I could stand at the top of the stairs and go limp to see what happens but I think theres more to it!

Would it really?

"OMFG, he's just fallen down the stairs!!" *Calls an ambulance*

"Just joking guys!!"

Hmm...

non normal stairs, padded clothing, leanring how to fall while protecting your body

The first time I fell down some stairs, my younger brother actually kicked me down them. I think we were four and five at the time. But I only hit two stairs on the way down as I bounced like a rubber ball before crashing into the baby gate at the bottom.

The next time I fell down some stairs was in primary school. They were marble ones from what I can remember. But I also remember vividly seeing stars as I came crashing down those.

The next time I fell down some stairs was in junior high, but by this time I had developed ninja like reflexes when falling having ridden bmx trails for a while. It's all about the tuck and protecting your face with your arm and trying to roll instead of slide.

Suit up in motorcross style gear, Back protector, knee/elbow pads, Sling yourself down a few times until you find the best way to do it for effect but with least damage, remove gear & throw yourself down trying to roll with it rather than stop yourself & break summit, JD.
Used to do it on my knees as a kid, Tobbbbbbbooooooggggeennnnnn :D

Don't attempt to break your fall by putting arms out. Keeps lose.

You'll do more damage to yourself if you were to fall down the stairs normally and try to do something about it rather than if you fall down some stairs when you've just had 2 litres of vodka and don't know what your name is.

I think the secret is not to tense up, someone I knew fell down some stairs when drunk and came away relatively unscathed...

That's been mentioned before, iirc it was in relation to druken car crashes. The drunk driver is more likey to survive due to him/her being more flexible and not tense.

So, you wouldn't learn on a normal set of stairs generally?

Pretty sure on the TV advert it was a real concrete flight. It was in a building like a train station and you could sort of see that there was no "impact", just a continuous fall down without slowing on any stair, like rolling down a very bumpy hill.

I still think it'd be a good party trick :p

I could fall down some stairs and live to tell you all about it, probably get an animated gif at the same time too.

But I'm a bit busy posting on the internet right now to do that :p

Speaking of stairs, when I was a wee 'un, I used to get a sleeping bag, unzip it, and stick a pair of those big cushions off the back of the sofa in, zip it back up with difficulty.

Tehn, go to the top of the stairs, clamber in, and wahey! FREE WATERSLIDE! (sort of)

It was great fun. :)

not as fun as building a fort out of the sofa seat cushions and pillows then surrounding the fort "structure" with the bed cover.

Or better yet your brother doing it then you bundling it with him inside.

BUNDLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I have a great idea that's both hugely entertaining for everyone and rewarding for one of us. We all chip in one post count and one penny and along with that a youtube video of ourselves falling down the stairs. We all vote on who's video is the best based on style, duration and injuries. The latter; whether you feel the more the better...is up to you. In the end we'll have one winner who takes all. So that will be the total number of posts, the pennies which you can put towards fixing the carpet back in and OcUK fame and maybe internet fame too. :)
