I am about to uprgade (prezzy) my Mb & cpu (giga p45 extreme+Q6600), this has set me to thinking about whether it is worth upgrading my 3870x2? And to what?

No one? Silly question I suppose. What I'm really asking is will I see a worthwhile improvement if I ditch the 3870x2 and get a 4870 (4870x2) or nvidea 260-280?

Would a 4850, or similar even be better?

The point about the other upgrades is that I should hopefully be seeing some kind of improvement anyway.

I have said card and if was to upgrade i would probably go for a 4870 as i only game at 1680x1050 so anything more would be a bit overkill.

You should see a healthy improvement, especially in the non-xfire enabled games.

The 4850 performs better in most cases but don't think its a worthwhile or major upgrade from what you currently have. Would say go 4870 but what's the (screen) res you can game at?

I would sell the 3870x2 but only to get more consistent performance (less crossfire hassle).

For the price you'd probably get an overclocked 4850 (gainward golden sample at 700mhz), or perhaps a 4870 512mb. (which would be better).

As already mentioned :) The 3870X2 may be faster at times I suspect but the 4850 will likely be more consistent with its performance (i.e. support in more games that don't like crossfire)

get your self 1 gig 4870 u should be sorted for long time to come less dual gpu problems to.
