Utterly pointless cars

one of the ugliest cars/jeep no idea why people buy them

Youve missed the boat mate, although tbh the ford mondeo never even set off for it :p

I don't see why. The Mondeo is a car thats championed on here all the time for being an excellent car in its class and the majority of them are hatchbacks it seems.

Unless you only hate small hatchbacks.

Isnt it the prius that does more damage to the planet in its manafacture than a 4x4 does in its life?
Possibly. That does though sound like a very snappy but entirely meaningless sound-bite from a competitor based on the lack of successful development to date of battery storage and the eventual disposal of the batteries.

Whatever; it is my understanding that the Prius is an early attempt at an environmentally friendly car. As such, I wouldn't call it "pointless". Maybe that's just me, I happen to believe in R&D ;)

As a test of a possible future technology it's ok I guess.

Personally I'll wait for Service Pack 3 rather than participate in the public beta, unless they're going to give me a free car.

I certainly wasn't suggesting that battery production and disposal isn't very harmful to the environment.

I was merely suggesting that I don't consider R&D into batteries or any other form of energy storage to be pointless.

New one will have Lithium Ion anyway. What about F1?

People are missing the point with hybrids, they are not to save fuel by definition, but to capture energy through regenerative breaking. Its not possible for them to improve MPG on the motorways significantly unless they are really hilly areas. But stuff like refuse collection trucks use around 30% less fuel.

F1 is suprisingly carbon neutral.

So is a Land Rover discovery if you take in the marketing bumf. including the one where carbon is the only bad pollutant.

The Prius is just a different approach to R&D with more real world merit.

Infact i will expand on that F1 even covers the pollution caused by spectators travelling to and from races.

How? And why?

I will expand that I was refering to the large amount of nasty stuff used in making the many composite parts rather than anything to do with CO2's.
