Hi all,

Thinking about jumping to Vista 64 bit as ive just upgraded to the new i7 intel stuff after years of having a rubbish PC and the new PC has 6gig of memory which I believe requires a 64bit os?

Currently on 32bit XP

Read a bit about software issues and stuff not working, can anyone tell me if there are probs with the following:

Adobe CS3 / will be upgrading to CS4 (master collection)
Office 07
Nero 6 (can upgrade if needs be) / img burn
Cute FTP 8 professional
The usual multimedia apps, winamp, itunes etc

Pondering XP 64bit but got told this has issues. Is this the case with the above?

Any advice is much appreciated :)

Thanks,
Ash

Whoever told you it has issues was exagerrating. I've been using Vista 64 since the second beta and it was flaky then, but come release I've never had problems with drivers (bar creative) or software. Plus it seems much more snappier and responsive than its 32-bit counterpart. I only had 2GB of ram but just added another 2Gb now so it's a neccesity. With 6GB you'd be crazy not to!

Good luck!

Vista 64 has also been out for ages, your treating it like a brand new os.

I just installed the 64 HP version. Only piece of software i can't get to work is Flash Media Server (it runs but doesn't stream anything). If you use IIS a lot then there are a few things you need to do before everything will work as before.

I've been using Vista 64 for ages now and can honestly say that I have had no issues at all. Infact it is the most stable OS I have ever used and I have used them all (MS ones at least)

It is snappy with plenty of ram and has never crashed on me.

I'm using CS2 on vista 64HP with no problems, so CS3 and 4 should be fine, I also seem to recall that CS4 was written to make better use of i7 and 64-bit os.

Vista x64, relative newbie as I only installed it a few months ago and I'm using some of the CS3 products with no problems, rig is as in my sig :)

ok, got vista installed and am completely new to it. turned of UAC as it was driving me mad. is there any other things to turn off, set up etc to make life better?

cheers,
Ash

Woo welcome to vista64! I recommend turning UAC back on (saved my foolish bacon once or twice) even if its a teeny bit annoying when setting up the pc.

Id recomend new firewall (over the windows one) like comodo firewall for security :)

Cant think of much else really (rest is more getting used to the changes from xp, this took me quite a while)

What does UAC actually do then other than mither you to death about everything you do on the PC?

Been working on windows based PCs for over 15 years so Im happy to change the screen resolution for example without being "sure" hahaha!

Guessing silent mode stops all the nagging?

could suggest turning off drive indexing and hibernation support as well to cut disk thrashing.
