Can you claim any money back if you can't make a flight?

I was supposed to be flying out to the Algarve at the weekend but due to unforseen circumstances I won't be able to. The tickets were a low fare from easyjet so I assume they are non-refundable.

A name change costs £20 per person so in theory I could sell them on but its pretty short notice and I don't know where I would advertise them.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone had any ideas about getting some of the money back as at the moment I'm going to be about £140 out of pocket.

Cheers.

easyJet regrets that it is unable to offer refunds in the event of passengers being unable to fly, these reasons include;

* for personal circumstances (i.e. work commitments, divorce, separation)
* for medical grounds*
* for missed connecting flights
* for late check-in

You are however able to change your flight for a future date (fees and charges apply).

If you require further information, please check our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Exceptions

The only exception to this is the 24 hours cancellation policy. You can cancel your booking by calling the contact centre no later than 24 hours after the original booking was made. E-mails and letters requests will not be accepted.

* easyJet will consider issuing a credit file in the event of the bereavement of an immediate family member. The credit will be to the value of the original fare paid less an administration fee per passenger per sector and can be used against any future flights on easyJet within the following six month period.

2 minutes that took me :p

I had this happen once. I got to the airport and realised my passport was out of date, LOL. I changed the flight to a couple of months later. I was due to visit my parents so it wasn't like I had to cancel anything else, other than let them down (I was taking out some important documents to them)*

*I am not a spy or anything

Did you book on a credit card? If you did you could initiate what I like to call the "credit card ***** slap" :)

Technically they have to refund you any government taxes as they would not apply if you did not fly.

However they probably charge such a high admin fee there is very little left.

Easyjet fares are always fully norf, for any other flight you are always eligible for a refund of your airline taxes back although this may be less an admin fee and is completly at the airlines discretion. The average time to process this refund is 2-12 weeks.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I can get the taxes back and easyjet don't charge an admin fee - its just takes them a few months to pay it back.

Do you think I would need to notify easyjet that I won't be flying in order to reclaim the taxes?

Rescheduling might be a good idea - does anyone know how much easyjet charge for this? EDIT: I checked it out, it would probably be cheaper for me to just book new flights.

I wasn't under the impression Easyjet never gave tax refunds, I know we advise our customers that easyjet flights are fully norf, if I wasnt clear in relation to that I apologise.
