Hi all,

was thinking in the near future getting a PS3, mainly for blu-ray as its allegedly the best player out there with the advantage of firmware updates, quick disc loads and of course the gaming side of it.

Q1: Does blu-ray quality suffer at all on a 720p tv? Does it downscale? If so, how does it work?
Eventually i'll get a 1080p 42" tv for the new extension (when its finally finished), but for now, i'll live with my Toshi 32" Regza 720p screen.

Q2: Also what are the PS3s like for media streaming etc? I have a cat5e wired network throughout the house serving every room to wallplates. Wondering whether this could take the place of an htpc, barring the tv side of things.

Thanks for any answers. :)

Q1 - Dunno
Q2 - Media streaming is excellent, the PS3 picks up the Media Player server quite easily and supports the vast majority of common formats. Failing that, you can use TVersity, which will transcode unsupported formats to your PS3.
For the record, you could also get PlayTv which would turn the PS3 into a freeview PVR as well. You can't use top up tv with it though.
