Looking at upgrading my GFX card, currently have a 512mb 4850 which is okay, but not enough AA for me :D

I had decidied on a 4870 a while back, but wuth all the changing prices the GTX260 is now in the same price bracket.
Was looking at the EVGA 260-216 for about 230, which i could overclock, or a 4870 1gb, really not sure which one, HIS anygood?

I have an X48 mobo so the 4870 should be more appealing cause of xfire but im reading lots of good things about the GTX260 so it tempting.

I only play at 1680x1050 and prob not gonna go much bigger, prob nomore than 1900xwhatever it is (id go more blind). Basically im looking at something that will last me a while. before it was a no brainer, the 4870 was cheaper, but now they are identical in price im after opions, especially if ppl have used both.

Im not sure that I would need crossfire at this Res, by the time i do there will prob be spankin new GFX cards out.

Had 4870512, yesterday got EVGA 260 MAXCORE, 260 is better, minimum framerate are higher meaning less jerky gameplay in certain games, in some games performance is close but in others like COD5 and dead space the 260 wins hands down. 260 is better build quality, runs cooler and quieter. I would recomend you go for an EVGA or BFG due to higher resale value and warranty.

Save money and buy another 4850 for crossfire as at your resoution it will smoke the 4870 and the gtx260. It will still beat them at the 1900 resolution aswell. Devious tried a gtx280 to see if that was better than his crossfire 4850s and chose to get rid of it because the 4850's were faster.

I have both (now selling my 4870 cheap on the members market here) and think the GTX260-216 is better but its also around £50-60 more so different price point really. Got a GTX260-216 yesterday to replace a 4850 and love it so much ordered another today!!

I reckon from fastest to slowest for single card solutions at present it goes something like:

4870X2 (some game Smay not use both GPUs though)
GTX280
GTX260-216
4870 1GB
4870 512MB
4850 512MB

4850X2 Is not out yet but will probably cost the same as 2 x 4850 so performance wise will be inbetween GTX280 & 4850 CF.

Very surprised your 4850 can't hack that res, should do easily, and be a total waste of time going Xfire at that to when single cards can easily cut through it, so id say the 260-216 out of those, as it wallops the 4870 on the new 180 drivers, and its cheaper, so no brainer tbh.

Activate your trust and then within a couple of hours your access to the MM should be granted and it will appear on the forum.

Tbh my 4850 isnt that bad. I just want to whack on full AA, AF etc. Most games its good, but not all.

I have tried dual 4850's and was not that impressed, driver technology isnt upto atm and its hit and miss for some games. Crysis is crap with it for example. High Heat also bothered me. Im also a bit anal about having matching cards, i have a 4850 toxic and they cost £160, coudl have a nicer card for a little more.

I have seen a reeview on the 4850x2 and it looks very nice indeed, not heard about release though.

Still undecided.
Quick one: On the x48 board, if i use a 260 could i use my old 8800gt in the other PCIE slot as a Physics card?

IMO it's not worth going crossfire with the res that you're playing at. It'll generate more heat and noise in your case and there is no need.

The GTX 260-216 is a good idea, but you'll be happy with either a 4870 or GTX260.

Faster in benchmarks but in the real world it's a different story. Give me smooth consistent frame rates with zero hassle any day. End of ....

Yep that was my opinion on 2x 4850s. I just wanna plug and play flawless and not have to worry if this game works and this wone dont etc etc.
If i had know about xfire before i tired it I would have got a p45 instead, but the x48 is a good board so meh.
Choices choices choices. Shame they are so close.

If the 260 was a 1gb card it would be a no brainer.

I it worth getting something like the OC BFG 260 or just getting the EVGA base model and OCing it myself?
Someone said why use a 8800gt as a Physics card? Wouldnt this be better than using one card to do it all?

lets say i moved up to 1900, the cards still similar?

No such thing as zero hassle when it comes to gpu's have you actually read any of the topics on here lol. Devious seemed to think the 4850's were smooth enough over the gtx280 also. The other point is he will only really have to spend around £130 to get gtx280 performance.

I don't need to read about the cards when I have owned most of them. ;)

Devious did the review many moons ago and from my chats with him it wasn't consistent in all games. Conan was very choppy. The review was on old drivers and I think you will agree the Nvidia drivers have come along way. Even more so than ATI.

I have had zero problems with my GTX and I can't say that about any other card. Nvidia have a great product with the G200 series. The 260 is a steal.
