Champs League Spoilers 25/26 Nov

Not much chance for this weekend as he hasn't returned to full training yet, he probably won't be risked the week after either.

Bit of a nothing match last night really, our very week midfield with only 1 person playing in his prefered position created nothing for RvP and Vela. I do feel a bit for Denilson as he never gets played CM and he doesnt have the pace / reading & tackling ability to play the wings or DM. Ramsey looked lost on the right too. Tough night for the forwards really as Kiev defended well but we have to learn how to break teams like this down. I'd imagine we'd have created more with Walcott and Nasri down the wings.

We only have 3 wide players of which 1 is perma-injured, the other is out for 3 months and the other seems to pick up little knocks quite regularly. We need some wide players just as much as we need a new DM. Our defence looks a little weak with Djourou on the right but can't help having 2 RB's injured i guess. Winger and a DM in the window please Wenger, another CB as well if you're feeling generous :D.

Watched the whole of the Man Utd game and while Utd hadn't really set up to try and win, Villarreal were even worse. Didn't look like they wanted to attack. Shame most Utd shots that were straight at the keeper.

Alex Ferguson said:
"He apologised to me and said he didn't mean to do that," said boss Ferguson.

"I think he's been watching (Villarreal forward) Robert Pires too much. At least he apologised to their players. You'd never see Pires do that."
Even I have to commend Fergie for that piece of cheekiness.

Celtic Cursed away from home more like just not good enough. Tom Boyd summed it up really "Celtic dont get the results away from home in europe becasue they dont have Scottish referees."

gerrard actually fouled, rooney actually cheated ...

fixed properly this time, he forgot to take out the "was", a mistake I assume.

Ramsey, Vela and RVP were fine tbh, they weren't great but we're coming off poor form, Ramsey hasn't played 90minutes for ages now and he can play great on the right, the problem is he didn't really have that overlapping right back as support to help him down there as Djourou has little pace, isn't great on the ball and isn't a great passer(the exact opposite of what the retarded commentator said who probably thought he was Sagna and said he'd be bombing up the wing in support) though he was much better than I thought he'd be.

Fabregas made plenty of fantastic passes but again, a throughball thats turned into a goal, or his long pass for bendtner and people say he was great, 100 passes just as good but don't result in a goal and people say he's not good.

Song sucked, he's awful with the ball but he stayed back and behind the play a heck of a lot more than Denilson and it showed, we weren't great but Song was far better than Denilson defensively, while worse overall. Denilson showed some good passing but both got much worse as the game went on. Denilson really does lack any pace or ability to go around players. I've said time and time again, he's an attacking central, he'd actually be far better on the right if he had to be as the few times he did get up the wing he couldn't cross on the left, and failed every cutback to his right foot to try to cross. He just won't play in that role with Cesc at the club, its his only real position though, not remotely versatile.

Denilson and Song were easily the worst on the pitch though, again, by some distance, why he didn't put RVP right wing, where he seems to prefer being, and take Denilson or Song off for bendtner I don't know. Vela should be the furthest guy forwards and bendtner is better with a Eduardo/theo/vela type infront of him. yet again the team showed far better movement upfront than when Ade plays, again Fabregas's passing looked better because the front two, and Ramsey, made runs into the box creating space. Yet again we can see that the team, offensively, plays better without Adebayor standing still for 90minutes, and mostly offside aswell.

EDIT:- one thing about song is, his tackling isn't good, but his intercepting wasn't bad. HE rarely gave the ball away standing still but as soon as he starts running the ball gets away from him and/or bounces off every body part except his feet. His main missing quality seems to be any ability to move with the ball. Passing while moving and it was awful, stood still his passing wasn't all that bad. He was much better in DM than CB because as centre back your goal is to make key tackles, as a DM your role is to stand in the gap cutting off the angles for the perfect throughball, which means less tackling, less closing, and less being on the ball. Denilson's much much better on the ball but far far worse and simply sitting in the gap and cutting off the channels.

That did make me literally LOL when I read it :D

another difference is Gerrard repeatedly does the same (and gets away with it) - Rooney did it once and felt so bad he then apologised.

Wasnt a particularly good game to be fair

LOL :D

As for this so called apology from Rooney; i didn't see any apology in his post-game interview on Sky Sports last night, in fact he didn't even acknowledge that he dived. He just said something along the lines of anticipating the challenge and trying to avoid it.

The difference between Rooney and Gerrard? Rooney comes out an apologises for diving...
Thankfully Gerrard had nothing to apologise for :)

I'm really looking forward to this game :)

I hope Gerrard plays a part with Torres. Cant wait until those two are fully fit and playing together every week.

Yep, expecting two massive performances tonight from these two. Good defensive display and sharp movement and I see no reason why we can't come away with a 3 or 4-0 victory under our belts.

I'll be back at 9.45pm loaded with either praise or Dirk Kuyt rants no doubt. :p

But irritated that we couldn't find a way past Villareal but we looked devoid of ideas and there was no sharpness to our play at all.

Then again we do struggle when faced with a 6-4-0 formation! :p

Through to the group stages though, which was the whole point beforehand. I'd really like to secure top spot in the final game.
