Considering a 22" gaming monitor? My Samsung 2253BW mini review!

I moaned about the backlight in the review bit of the site. I have a silent system, and wasn't expecting any noise. I work in the dark at night, lurking in my pit writing programs. The monitor was way too birght, and the buzz that appeared below 75% brightness was very loud in my particular circumstances. I've now got the 2053BW and it is silent across all brightnesses. I googled and found a few others had mentioned the noise. I wonder if only some of them get it...

Yes I've heard about the buzz. Its on a few different Samsungs not just the 2253BW. I don't think its on mine and my brightness is on 30. Mind you I've got a 900 case so thats all I can hear most days :p

Can't believe the price of the 2253bw on OCUK now. £187.99. I picked mine up for £136.77 less than two weeks ago off another site. Proper chuffed now :)

i was using the "MagicBright" setting, but it was starting to annoy me. Just tried the OP's settings and it looks good

what have other people got there settings at??

Good point, perhaps some hear the buzz due to having litlle or no background noise like yourself. If I stick my ear against the back of the monitor I can hear a faint buzz, but don't notice it during use.

But I think a more likely explanation is that this is just another 'feature' that is worse on some monitors, better on others. Just like the BLB, it seems mine is worse than squarks and warrens. Guess it's all just down to luck which one you actually get, and deciding on whether you can live with it or not.

Thanks wingnuttzz. I still have my brightness/contrast at 30/90, but put my gamma up to 40% (30 was just a little too dark).

I also messed around with the MagicBright settings, 'Text' and 'Internet' were okay, but the rest just seemed wrong. Ended up just keeping my own custom settings. Nice feature to have though as it gives a good range to cater for different users tastes.

no problem:)

i found MagicBright as you said, was fine for text and internet, but generally a bit to bright. And it was really annoying flicking between things and the brightness constantly changing, and it was even worse in games and films, it just didn't work.

please now though:D

Out of about 30 LCD's I have bought this is by far the most horrid out the box picture of them all.

I Googled it and got some quick settings to make it a bit nicer, the Blue has to be turned all the way down and the backlight bleed on black is bad at top/bottom of screen.

If I was keeping it for myself and not a customer I think a proper calibration tool and software would be needed.

What panel have you got?

So, what monitor are you using then ?
or
Out of the 30 that you have seen what do you recommend ?

No idea as it was for a customer, I assumed you cannot get it from the service menu as it was removed in the later last series.

Yes you can. It worked on mine fine.

I did the:

- Set contrast and brightness to 0
- Press the « Menu » button
- Press the « Source » button for 5 seconds

and got the panel type from the code.

Does not work on later batches of SM 223BW's and SM 226BW's, its well known Samsung removed it.

I can verify it never worked on any of the above models I bought so assumed it was still locked on new Aqua series.

I was sick of it by this time anyhow and if it was for my own use it would have been sent back as unwanted under the DSA.

Its works on the BW Aqua. Loads of people on hard forum were checking theirs because of a blue hue on the overall picture, and they all turned out to be CMO panels.

You may have got one of those.
