Jaguar Land Rover job cuts ~ 800jobs

Yeah, great....

Unless of course you are an 'agency' worker. ;)

Thats what agency staff are for though. Needed during busy times and disposable when times are not so good. It happens in my industry on a yearly basis, agency staff in from November to May/June then they are let go.

Oh I know that! 800 is a HUGE number though.

Just a shame that this is happening when they have so many new products in development and widespread across the motor industry including the premium brands. For example 90% of Range Rover buyers have the top spec trim, and half of those have all the option boxes ticked, yet they are not buying them at the moment.

They just need to get this into production ASAP

Sorry, I think I just sicked up there a little. At least it explains why they are shedding 800 jobs!

I think thats quite nice, probably wont look exactly like that once it reaches production though.See something like it at Gaydon last year.

To most consumers the production one will look nigh on identical. :) Its awesome looking in the flesh IMO.

Although it doesnt in anyway explain why 800 jobs are going.

2 months ago there was a plenty of good news when they were taking on another 600. Now its totally reversed.

Aye, tis a rough time in the automotive industry.

I'd know, having attempted to get a job in it several times in the past month or two...one of which spectacularly ended in "We were extremely impressed....would like to offer you the position but we've had our budget pulled for this year. It may get signed off in January."

Joy! Some waiting ahead :p

Sure its not GAYtor split, CV joint locked up and ripped driveshaft from the box before putting a hole in it :p

 No split gaitors here. CV joint is also fine.

I wasn't saying that the location was the problem, just that the above landy looks utterly gay.

At Ford you have Agency, Hourly, Salaried. And thats the order in which they would go if things are desperate, a lot of PA's to cheif engineers have been given their 2 weeks already. This is different to the US where Hourly workers would have a priority over Salaried due to (over in my opinion) powerful unions.
