unemployment

they don't pay all of it though, nor do they care what was 'suitable' whilst working. Flat out refused to cover my rent (450pcm for city centre leeds) because I had 'other options' available.

Being unemployed is utterly gash

If you're under 25 they won't - single room rent only. This is what the complaint a few posts up was about..

I have yet to goto jobseekers to go on the doll as of yet...:(

Got laid off a good month ago now, just so depressing.

That and I seem to have no direction at the minute which isn't helping.

You're going to find gaps like that affect your ability to get into any security-restricted jobs (some public sector, any airport-based employment regardless of type). If nothing else, claiming dole means your work-related activities are documented and accounted for.

How sad, yet me doing work in police stations / HTCU's in my last job won't help my cause...I love this world. :p

Not my fault, can't find anything :S I look most days, and it's just the same stuff about week in week out.

No, because you'll be told that month plus gap that you can't account for is a security risk. C'mon, we all know its an employers' market, no need to make it harder on ourselves.

...Regarding?

I've been doing interviews, if they don't wish to believe that's they're choice and loss to be honest.

However I see your point.

Not everyone can get a job at the click of they're fingers sadly.

Never ever found ajob in the dole. Best bet - get there the morning after your laid off. Thing they still dont count the 1st 3 days of your claim too, never worked out way.

Take your pay slips in. take some id, not sure on photos, not been out of work for 2 years now, be nice to them in there, they hate the place too.

Then, get to the agecnys and look for jobs. Most of the jobs in the dole are the ones they cant fill anyway, so skip them and go to the source, at least you might get some Xmas money. Keep looking on the net for work, its hard going, but there is work out there, just hidden under piles of 'send us your cv' rubish.

Keep ya chin up at least you now get free dental and eye exams :)

I lost my job and had a new one in a week, it can be done.

Even makky D's is better than nothing!

I have pretty low standards of myself as it is, and working in Maccy D's would be a death setence, same with supermarket work etc.

Obviously it's money...I just prefer to go into a job knowing I have some security I guess...That and my previous job was my only and first full time job...So it's all new to me at the minute.

It takes ages to process by the way, can be up to 6 weeks easily. You can apply for a crisis loan each week though up till then.

took me a week

dont use the website to claim, its useless. get on the phone and then your claim will start from today so no matter how long it takes them to sort it all out you will get money from today. they will send you in the right direction towards any housing benefits etc too.

very heplful people in my opinion

i done it over the website and like i said above it took me a week to actually be on JSA so hardly what i'd class as useless

They're paranoid perhaps, but its their rules. If you're that good, surely you wouldn't be having problems getting a job ;) no harm in making the dole claim as soon as possible.

Not everyone can get a job at the click of they're fingers sadly.

Right - so why not make it easier on yourself and widen the search? I would happily work in a bar if it meant I had some income, gained experience (however worthless people might say it is) and wasn't stuck in rubbish accomodation.

I say this as someone living on the edge of London, the hardest hit by the recession and with the most competition..

Hah, didn't mean it like that :p but yeah.

Hate to say it, but I just couldn't see myself doing jobs like that...I'm not that type of person :( Hard to explain.

As I said above, my last job was my first full time job, was there since I left school.

I applied to agencies, one even sent me a letter the other day after talking to me on the phone about looking for work, saying there where no current vacancies at all.

I'm on numerous C.V / job sites as well...It's probably my C.V no doubt, and lack of qualifications on there that doesn't help.

I'm "educated" and it didn't make a blind bit of difference - so qualifications aren't necessarily the be-all end all. What role exactly were you doing with the police? Elaborate on it, state your achievements in the job, how you contributed to the organisation as a whole. If I had done work like that, I would be milking that experience for all its worth...

I wasn't in the police, just doing projects in there constabularies from time to time, and working in some security type rooms installing servers cabinets there etc.

My achievements are literally going from doing mundane prep-ping of motherboards to the above really...That and generally moving up in the department.

I'm in a soddy situation, probably have to end up taking a pay cut (if that's possible from what I was on anyway :P) and doing apprenticeships or something...that or go into first line support work...Which I really don't want to do to be fair.

But look at it now I'll probably have to.

Well i am not sitting on my ass.

Already applied for a few online jobs and also put my CV with a few companies.

If it means litter picking in the streets I will do it. A job is a job.

I don't rent i have a mortgage,so i'm touching wood praying to god to get a new job

They'll cover at least some of your mortgage if you claim housing benefit, and you won't have to pay council tax.

Good :)

I'll be having another look tonight, my problem is I don't know what I'm looking for, so looking through 1500 in a 20 mile radius of where I live is pretty hard going sometimes :p

IT's a crowded field, maybe now is the time to consider a new type of work altogether.

Indeed, it's gone through my mind.

I just never wanted to go down the labourer route for some reason :(

I've had the thought of Prison / Police / RAF / Navy etc in my head on and off for a while as well...but it just seems so restricting at my age.

Oh and that job search is with no sectors selected...just a general search.

Whereabouts in Buckinghamshire are you, if you don't mind me asking?
