An eye for an eye - Iran courts rule to blind man

Wow they are silly, waste of good slave labour, should have put him to some manual work slaving away for years and years, at least that way he would bring some useful income to the country.

That's because they're complaining about our traditions, in our country. Big difference.

So provided they keep their Islamic practice to themselves, in their own country it's fine?

Unless of course it's a barbaric punishment, in which case British citizens who would normally proclaim that Islam is evil and barbaric (see Killa_Ken), applaud and support their backwards forms of justice.

Spot on, they're a bunch of planks but their justice system is top notch. Just how it should be.

My gut reaction to this is "Spot on" - its about time some idiots realised how much suffering they cause, as no amount of jail time can compensate for something like that. Must have been horrible.

However, I still have a deep down reservation against it - I'd really like to know how much of a deterrent such things are. I suspect it would act as a huge deterrent to me, knowing that any violence I inflicted on someone, would be returned upon me by the state.
However, I can rationalize cost/benefit and cause/effect - whereas its plainly obvious that a lot of criminals can't/don't/won't.

Wonder if it would make any difference? (Not that it would ever happen here)

Amazing... people will have a fit when a Muslim allegedly complains about Christmas, but if they want to throw acid in peoples faces, it's completely justified.

I think you should **** off to Iran for a year and live under their law to see just how wonderful you find it.

What are you on about?

Complaining about christmas and throwing acid in ones face are not even remotely the same situation.

Why does a blanket state of agreement/non-agreement have to be used when talking about Muslim beliefs/methods?

I dont get it.

As for living under 'their' law, had he not broke the law he wouldn't now have to spend his life auditioning for parts in the elephant man.

Let's not forget that under their law people still have limbs chopped off or are decapitated. Women who have been raped are stoned to death because under their law she needs four or five male witnesses to testify on her behalf that she was raped for any form of justice on her behalf.

If you think their law is good, you're a ******* moron.

Well I think most people would prefer to see no acid thrown in people's faces, but he started it. How would you feel if your Mum/Wife/Sister was blinded by acid in this country and the perpetrator was out of prison in say, 2 years as is likely in this country. Would that be justice?

No. But that doesn't mean I go applauding or supporting the backwards actions of Islamic law. It means I get on to my MPs and local government to affect change instead of sitting on my ass complaining how crap the British justice system is.

I'm not female, so your example doesn't apply, nor do i condone the behavious in your example which is my exact point, you're just generalising everything.

I agree'd with acid in this guys face in this example, so i therefore agree with the stoning of women who have been raped?

Or for your bit at the end of the quote, i agree with the justice in the OP, i don't agree with other laws/punishments, are you getting it yet?

I get it... you only support barbaric justice when it suits you. Dead on.

I think putting acid in someones eye while calm is far worse then putting acid in someones eye when you are all angry and worked up

They could surgically blind him if that is the desired result - actually throwing acid in his face sounds a bit messy... either way thats pretty awesome.

I don't know why people kick up such a fuss over a country we have no power over, a justice system we have no say in, carrying out a sentence we have nothing to do with. If you want to whine about man's inhumanity to his fellow man there are worse things you could be crying about.
