I'm comparing these two cards because they both fall around the same two-digit price tag. I did post about slower cards recently but it has come to my attention that a brand new one with warranty is needed.

The MSI HD4830 has the longer warranty at 3 years and possibly headroom for overclocking unlike the GTS. Performance wise the XFX 8800GTS is faster by about 15% on average at factory clockspeed and has a free bundled game. However, it has a 2 year warranty, uses more power and runs hotter.

In other words, I'm not entirely sure which to get...
 
The 4830 at stock is on par with the 8800 GT.

It would take a lot of overclocking to get it to match the 8800 GTS, which is definitely the card to get.

Edit: Just looked at 9800 GTX prices, definitely get the 8800 GTS! Preferably the 512MB version :]
