GTA IV DRM

My advice to avoid any issues is register early with rockstar social club now (took me less than 1 min) & also associate your Windows LIVE or X360 gamertag with it as well to avoid server delay issues. Also you need around 18GB of HD space which is the new record amount (must be on 2 x DVD9s so you also need a dual layer drive) This game will be one of the biggest PC releases this year and R* know this as they have been advertising it on TV all week which for a PC release nowadays is very unusual.

The actual gameplay will disappoint anyone who loved San Andreas as this has nowhere near as much content but the improved gfx and FPS will at least let PC players enjoy it more. There is only really 1 big city which is broken up into smaller islands and connected by bridges. The consoles really struggled to cope with this scale in places and the pop up was criminally bad in that respect.

I could not go back to it on PS3 once completed as the FPS issues & very blurry graphic filters used to hide the technical limitations actually hurt my eyes. PC should have none of this so I am looking forward to it again even though I know the story. Some of the radio stations in this one are genius and also very controversial (even for R*).

Listen out for a talk show host called Richard Bastion as he is very funny & worth the price of the game alone!!

Only thing I am unhappy about with the DRM is that you have to keep your DVD in the drive at all times.

Lol, it will be cracked before the game is officially out, pirates will be able to play it without a DVD in the drive and before release. Why do they have to bother with overprotective DRM ****? Ridiculous.

Sounds fine, at least they don't have an install/activation limit :)

I don't see a problem with it, you can't expect game developers to just distribute games with no protection, or simple protection these days.

While I'm all against intrusive DRM, there's nothing wrong with this system. They have every right to check to see if you are using a pirated CD key or not. While most games do usually wait untill you try and play online to do this, its not too much of a bother. As long as an internet connection is listed under the minimum reqs, it should be fine. Look at Steam, I don't see people complaining about that.

What if you only want to play it offline? Are they going to allow you to install it without that Social Club malarkey?

That's fine by me as I though San Andreas was the worst one of the bunch. Mainly because of the scenario - the music was awful (not into rap/hip hop) and the ghetto setting I was bored with after five minutes.

Hopefully this is going back to GTA VC which, in my opinion, was the best of the lot.

DRM is just bs! It doesn't effect piracy in any way; sure it might delay the game from being released online by 1 or 2 days but after that pirates will still get it and play it with less hassle than the ones who bought it original! It also makes the release groups work harder in order to claim the first release.

How is it overprotective when it allows unlimited installations?

EA's system can be described as overprotective when it has a five install limit and no revoke option like BioShock etc.

This sounds okay to me though.

Not sure why people are getting excited over the PC version tbh. Better ala high res visuals mean sod all when the core game itself has moved quite far away from the classic GTA gameplay we're used to.

Get used to taking friends out on pathetic dates, being rung up every 2mins by the most annoying sodding in-game relation ever with boring very plain missions. I loved the game heaps, especially the car handling, which is so much more realistic than VC/San Andreas but when you look at the game as a whole - there just isn't much there. There are only two likeable characters seen? :)

I do want to get this on the PC but just can't justify it. The 360 version looks superb in a lot of areas, with odd shadowing in places but overall it looked really good. At the end of the day, the core gameplay is just dull as hell.

I have plenty of reservations about the gameplay based on what I've heard, but I have still pre-ordered it to see for myself.

Don't get me wrong. The game is fun but heavily focused on the storyline, and there isn't much to do other then that tbh. In San Andreas for example you could muck around in the countryside, go flying and jump off buildings at silly heights. You could even annoy the hell out of the cops so they bring in the heavy artillery.

GTAIV's cops are thick as hell, and there are no wanted stars - escaping them is different a lot easier. I loved the game first time round, but as I started to play a second time I was hoping to discover things I had missed. I never did.

Errrm, there were wanted stars.

Each star gave a progressively larger area that you had to escape from without gaining attention from the police. This showed up as a circle in on the map. If the police see you before you're out of the area, you'd end up back in the center of the circle at square one.
