Was watching band of brothers...

Just started watching this over the last week. Got it last Christmas and can't believe i waited this long! One of the best series I have seen. The video quality looks amazing for just DVD. Can't think how much better the Blu-Ray version would be cause this already looks really good!

On Episode 8 now.

Couldnt agree more with most of the opinions here, quite easily the greatest television series ive ever seen. There isnt a poor episode in the bunch and as Stellios says the interviews with the actual guys are really touching.

The book is well worth a look as there are quite a few parts not in the tv series which are equally good. Think Pegasus Bridge is my favourite Ambrose book aside from this one. Also my girlfriends dad sent an email to Col Winters a couple of years back and actually got a personal response from the guy, he came across as such a humble man.

Woah, where did he get the email?

Its a brilliant series. Im currently studying abroad and I took the boxset with me, showing it to lots of people and they love it.

As a TV series it beats most film productions. There are two things that always strike me. Doing the training (the one from friends, cant remember his name), who when you watch it the second time feel deeply sorry for, you know he knows what they will be going through in operations, but you fail to appreciate it same as they do in the training, and just think hes a ****.

Carentan. How people did this for real and then have to lead normal lives is beyond me.

I recommend Antony Beevor's Stalingrad to anyone (though its a book), really is sickening. :(

I loved this series too, was watching it on tv the other night as well-probs the third or fourth time I've seen it :D

P.S 35 for it on blue ray  damn that's a steal!

Couldn't agree more with what's been said so far in this thread, undoubtedly one of the most moving pieces of TV in the past decade, no matter how many times I watch it the Bastogne episodes and then the final episode interviews always put me on the verge of tears. Epic watching.

Watch the interviews and behind the scene, it really strikes home even more, if that is possible.

best episode is at the end where the finally show who the "real" people are who give the interviews, I was like no way is that Cptn Winters

Shook me how harrowing it is, horrible experience for them

David Schwimmer plays Herbert Sobel. I dont remember reading too much about his life after the encounters with easy company when I read the book but here is what wikipedia says about him:

Sobel married and had two sons, although he was later divorced. He unsuccessfully attempted to commit suicide. When he died in 1988, neither his ex-wife or any of Easy Company turned up at his funeral.[1]

After the television series portrayed Sobel as a petty tyrant, his son Michael, unhappy with the public opinion of his father, attended the 2002 reunion of Easy Company and spoke of his memories of Herbert Sobel as a good father, which was well-received by the audience.

Didnt one of the boys from easy company admit that they probably wouldnt have made it through normandy if it wasnt for Sobel's rigorous training.

He doesnt seem any worse for discipline than sgt hartmann...
