so i got my xonar this afternoon, and after installing it and then the drivers, i loaded up WinAmp and took it for a test drive.
so far i've found that it sounds miles better than the old onboard that i was using before.

however, i came to have the strange desire to set the card up properly, where i discovered that the AudioCentre icon from the taskbar is gone.
i don't think it was ever there.

starting the program from the start menu, the Control panel or even the program in the directory itself has proven useless, the thing just won't open.

anyway, without the program, i can't change any settings at all, and obviously this is an issue.

i've tried the updated Beta drivers on the Asus website but they haven't helped.

things to know: i'm running XP x64, i have a gigabyte P35 mobo, and i'm using the PCI Xonar D1.

please help me!

I managed to do this to myself when I let the card auto-detect and only install the driver rather than running the driver setup executable.

Uninstall the Xonar stuff with Add/Remove programs and try the beta driver again, just re-installing over the top of stuff that's already there seems to have issues sometimes, even if it is an upgrade.

okay, will try this.

<edit>
it didn't work.
i tried uninstalling the drivers from add/remove programs but about 1/2 a second after the FP audio relays clicked the PC bluescreened (stop 0x0~0FC).
reebooting into windows and disabling the card in device manager also caused a bluescreen (same stop code)

booting into safe mode allowed me to uninstall the drivers (from the add-remove programs menu) and windows brought up the normal "new hardware" dialogue.
i booted back into windows normally and installed the beta drivers from "setup.exe" in the beta driver Dir, as it would if it were being autorun.

installation went as normal, finished, reebooted, no Xonar D1 Audio Center.

btw, during the driver installation, the XP "unsigned driver" warning message pops up every time (both normal and beta drivers) but disappears before i can click on it.

Don't like the sound of the BSOD's I'd try re-seating the card at this point if you haven't already.

The installation thing is normal.

i think it might be a side effect of the beta drivers, it didn't do it with the normal drivers.

hmm....I've never heard of this kind of issue
Maybe it's due to the system you're using. Can you provide more details about your system?

Moreover, try to install the D1 in other computers. If it works on other systems, then it can prove the issue is from you system in use. If it doesn't work on other computers, then it might be the sound card's problem.

looking forward to your update.

Cheers~~

try another pci slot, might be IRQ sharing issues

add/remove the drivers first (remove them)

then use newest betas

Intel Q6600 at 3GHz
4GB of PC2-6400 DDR2
nVidia 8800GTX
Compro DVB-t 750 (disabled)
XP x64

Will try this now.

i don't have another system to test it in unfortunately.

okay, i have just done the following:

Remove the drivers from add/remove programs (must be done in safe mode, or cause bluescreen)
unplug the card. at this time, i also removed my TV card which wasn't being used, but worked perfectly.
re-inserted the card into the slot that was previously occupied by the TV-card.
booted into windows. Windows announces new hardware, i click cancel and install the beta drivers from their directory. the drivers install successfully, and the system restarts.

upon boot, the sound works, audio center doesn't. nothing has changed so far.

i don't have a spare pc to test it in, so if any OcUK member lives near coventry and they're willing to help me out, please drop a message.

do you have another hard drive / partition that you can try a fresh install on?

maybe use a driver sweeper to remove all audio drivers that are installed first..

try a fresh install with each pci slot before you rule it as 'broken' imo

i'm not ruling it as broken yet, but i did try it in a PCI-slot that i know to be working.

i'm going to start installing XP x64 again on the partition i use for Vista x64 (which i haven't used in a few months) and see if it works there.

SORTED
okay, being unable to install XP x64 on the Vista partition while still being able to access the Old XP install.

so, i decided to fully install XP x64 again. the install has been getting a bit stodgy. i've been using it for two years now.

Anyway, Audio Centre works fine fine on the new install.
