Hi guys,

My little 205 died last week so I've managed to get hold of another car. (Orion if anyones interested)

Now, this the Orion was my father-in-laws but he hasn't used it in over 6 months so the tax has expired so needs renewing.

My problem is that he has only managed to find the 2nd page of the V5 logbook. (the page with the green slip that the new owner fills out but keeps until the logbook is returned by the DVLA)

I could use the document reference on the logbook and buy the tax online but my insurance company will only insure a car on my policy if the car is registered to me.

Whats the fastest way to get a new logbook with my name on the front back from the DVLA??

I've read somewhere that I'd have to fill out a V65 (i think) but I also read that the DVLA takes 6 weeks to process these and that isn't good enough as both me and the Mrs both need cars so we can get to work and such.

HELP!!??!!

:)

Could go to a local dvla office, then sort it out + tax it there. Take Insurance + MOT with you and should be grand.

/edit not actually sure if this is any faster, to change owners over. If you've got green slip then surely that consitutes enough for ownership?

Do you have the new keeper bit on the second page?

If so then tell insurance it is in you name, use the new keeper bit to tax it and then sort out a new log book afterwards.

Is this ok??

I called my insurance company and they said that I have to be the 'owner'. I asked them for their definition of 'owner' and they said "You have the logbook in your hand with your name on it"

I did this to a car i bought - the previous keeper didnt send off the logbook.

but armed with the v5c/tax/insurace/money they gave me tax over the counter and sorted out the registered keeper bit for me too

right, I've insured the car and taxed it at the post office. Sadly they couldn't sort out the registered keeper bit.

Can I just send the V5c/2 (small green new keepers slip) to the DVLA and will they change the details? Even if the seller hasn't sent them their part of the logbook?

cheers for the replies guys.
