So what will it be called, the next microsoft offering? Don't know about you but the day a browser can be sufficiently workable and properly flexible just like what you get with a PC, attach a keyboard and mouse and a word processor program to one then I may just make the switch over to that instead of upgrading the PC every 2 - 4 years and costing me a mint. Although I like my 360, it just doesn't compare to the versatility of a PC. I find PC gaming more emersive.

Why would you want a word processor or internet browser on "games" console

You insert you game load it up and play it, no hassle, no fuss and click off a button you are online playing with a friend.

Console gaming has come a long way but Sony/MS/Nintendo need to remember what a games console is.

How can you say PC gaming is "more" immersive In what way. I have been enjoying console game since 1990 and wouldn't give it up for anything.

What exactly do you mean by more immersive anyway?

I have pretty much left PC Gaming, so easy to plop in a disc and sit on my bed playing online with mates. Though i do miss my CS Clan days! :)

I want VR Consoles!

It gets to the point now where you have a PC for gaming, one PC internet browsing and another PC for media purposes.

I don't think you can do all three on one PC now without hassle of slow performances or programs not liking each other or whatnot.

When I was a PC boy I'd hate buying games purely for the fact I know I'd have some hassle installing it or errors would occur when playing it, etc etc.

Yes the consoles don't match the graphics of the PC but I don't think anyone rewally cares anymore. All about the gameplay really. Pop disc in and you away. Simple really.

I have my PC next to my 360 so I can browse at the same time. Wahey.

Ooooh, my 11k post. I'll bow out now gracefully :)

What are you on about? The entire point of a PC is it can do anything you throw at it, they are versatile. Any PC can do work processing, most can do media playback and stick a decent graphics card in and you got yourself a games machine too...

Well they haven't invented an All-in-One machine to cater for my needs yet :(
I have my gaming system hooked up to a CRT my 360 hooked up to my flatty & my lappy hooked up to another flatty
System for gaming & lappy for extra Independant browsing & my 360 for gaming.
To replace, I would need say a 52inch with a system that could game & browse & run a few progs & let me monitor it all individually on a section of screen that wouldn't bother me when I was doing other things, Not going to happen is it as I can't angle the screens like I have them now.

Aaaaaaarrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh My head hurts just thinking about it :p

I love all my kit & reckon they should bring out another couple of devices I can add to my set up, Less is Not more, More is More :D

This is a pointless thread, and only going to act as flame bait..

The PC is a PC, and I doubt consoles are going to go that way, they have fixed and limited software configurations for a reason (mainly piracy oppertunities and limited resources)

And although people say they want everything in one box, which granted works for some, it's a disaster for others, you can't game/surf/watch movies at the same time on the same screen in many households without severely impacting on each person.

:o You don't understand what I'm getting at.

I'd half debate that; I do somehow find PC games easier to get into, and the plotlines easier to understand. For some reason I find it a real effort to follow a game's plot on a console, whereas it's considerably easier on a PC! It may well just be the fact that my PC is in my own study, whereas the PS3 is in the family room though...

the only thing I find my console (PS2) useful for is for when I have mates over because there isn't many multiplayer (apart from online) games on the PC apart from PES.

I can't really justify getting a new console just for when my mates come over because I have a top end PC, and FPS and RTS is what I play most and there both much better with keyboard and mouse.

Yup. 'If' the day comes when you have greater versatility with a console, e.g. not just having the use of a gamepad then that maybe the day I use them more. My 360 is there for a rainy day and that's about all. Having just spent over 1700 on upgrading, my choice I know, at the end of it all when I sit back and think about it....four letter words spring to mind, lol. :D
Though I've just about done enough upgrading for now there are still 3/4 items I could do with but I spose you gotta stop somewhere. At least 2 of them would be wise purchases tbh.

Well really it comes down to the fact that consoles suit certain types of games and the same with PCs. For me it comes down to:-

PC - Strategy, multiplayer FPS, flight sims.
Console - Racing, platform/adventure, shallow FPS, 'party' games.

I truly hope the day doesn't come (as cheets said) when consoles have many pc-type benefits, the beauty of a console is put a disk in and go...

to a degree i even kinda disagree with the way the games can now update... it used to be a case of getting the game spot first time with no exceptions, now you have games such as gt5p where an update actually looses you some of the saved things such as lap-times! this is certainly not in the console spirit...

I personally haven't played a pc game for well over a year, but play the PS3 every day... I spose its cuz i work on a computer all day so dont really wanna be on one in my spare time too... much prefer to sit on my beanbag downstairs in front of a big telly :)

You can do all of that already with the PS3. Put Linux on and get open office, plug in your usb keyboard and mouse and you are all set.

Only time the controls of a game pad are a nuisance is when you are really concerned with always having a good score. I am past that now - I don't care if I am in the top 2 or bottom 2. Though having said that, some people are scarily good on a game pad.

I wouldn't like for consoles to become more pc-like in nature. They are nice and simple and casual and should remain that way. I am sure they will too.

Of course they will be a lot more powerful, which will be nice. I wouldn't want to hazard a guess as to what sort of specs they will have, but I do look forward to the next xbox. The current one still impresses me with what it's capable of considering the hardware.

And I don't get people comparing the cost of consoles vs pc. Sure for a little while I upgraded my pc a lot which cost a forune, but most of those were silly purchases. Now that I have 2 xbox 360's I am not really spending money on more hardware for them, but I do find myself purchasing more games, but also paying more for them.

Neither platform is necessarily cheaper/more expensive than the other - both simply require a certain level of consideration when it comes to spending money - 2nd hand games sometimes on consoles, or turning down a setting or two on pc to reduce cost.
