Hey guys I'm seriously thinking of going to Iceland for a short holiday. I haven't planned anything yet I just wanted to see who has been and what your experiences were like. I want to go and come back feeling inspired. I don't know who I'm going with yet, may possibly go on my own.

I'll start you off with some questions...

Where did you go?

How much did you pay?

What did you do?

Baring in mind I haven't traveled abroad before!

cheers,

Mr Best

Reykjavik for a long weekend, not cheap. At the beginning of February, it was very cold, we had sunshine, sleet and snow. Left home at lunchtime on Friday and returned home at lunchtime on Monday.

Friday night:

Evening walkabout
Eat and drink

Saturday:

Sightseeing on foot takes four hours
Outdoor swimming pool – hot tubs
The Blue Lagoon
Eat & drink

Sunday:

Golden Circle Tour - Geysir area, Gullfoss waterfall and Thingvellir National Park
Eat & Drink

Monday:

Breakfast flight home.

Summary:

One of the best long weekends we’ve done, never a spare moment, always interesting. The Sunday day trip was amazing. You must try a hot tub. :)

Went there last July I think it was.

Do the tours - can't remember the names of the ones I did but you can get brochures in the travel place - some of them are quite pricey though.

All in all cost about £1k for flight + hotel + tours (4 days), but it should be a bit cheaper now as the ISK isn't really worth anything now :p

did a weekend back in July £250 . Did some of the tours. Blue Lagoon probably best bit - bit pricey though - women are verryy nice :)

Just remember the Icelandics hate the British after Gordon Brown called them terrorists.

They don't - that's a ridiculous thing to say. Firstly they understand that the terrorist laws don't only apply to terrorist actions or people. Secondly they understand that the English respect them as much as we always have and act exactly the same towards us. Most of them speak relatively fluent English.

Regarding the trip.. We went for a week and it cost a lot (though it'd cost a bit less now). Visited the first Parliament area, Blue Lagoon, drove over Myrdalsjokull, took in every street of Reykjavik (including the industrial port region for some reason), visited the island of Heimaey and took several boat trips out fishing and watching birds.

Amazing experience, the most fantastic country I've ever visited and I much desire to go there for longer.

I don't know who I'm going with yet, may possibly go on my own. i am going with a lot of college mates :)

I'll start you off with some questions...

Where did you go? To a rural area. went to Reykjavik for 1 night though

How much did you pay? £580 for 4 nights

What did you do? Blue lagoon where everyone baths in natural hot spring water. going to see geisers, mountains and big ass waterfalls

I am yet to go so can't go into too much detail but i absolutley love Iceland and if i enjoy the trip may go to live there if the economy is sorted in 5 yearish time :p

The blue lagoon is amazing... until you get there and realise there is a massive power station down one side of it.

Still a good laugh though, and much better now that Iceland is on it's knees, the currency is devalued and it no longer costs £7 a pint.

I did Norwy last year, and Guinness in Oslo was £7.50 a pint - try going out for a night at those prices. Escaped to Flam on the east coast after a week, and was 'pleasantly' surprised to see the prices dropped to £6 pint....

Nice glaciers though.

Freaky, I'm going there after uni (which will be in 4 and a bit years' time). Teaching myself Icelandic so I have an opportunity to get a job.

Plus I forgot to mention I saw Geysir also, and the waterfall (can't remember the name of it but it was stunning).
