*** The Official Football Manager 2009 Thread ***

Well, thanks to Windows Updates and the automatic restart I have lost my Lyon save. Windows decided to updated and restart mid save and therefore corrupted the game.

As a result, I decide to follow Syke's idea and start a new game as the gaffa of Fulham. I am just coming up to February in my first season and things are going ok. I am a little inconsistent but put this down to injuries and not being able to put out a settled side at the moment. That said, I have had a couple of pleasing results.

I took a point on the opening day away to Chelsea and then in the return fixture took another point despite leading till the 85th minute. I went down 1-0 at The Emirates thanks to the dreaded 90th minute goal. Then winning 3-1 at home to Liverpool with a Dempsey hat-trick Currently sitting 13th.

Personnel wise I have sold a fair few fringe players but due to injuries not been able to trim the squad enough, so still have the likes of Gera, Davies, Murphy that I am looking to ship out, along with Baird, Hughes at the back.

I have managed to bring in Davide Santon to provide cover for Pantsil, although will take over from him by the end of the season. I also snapped up experienced Portuguese CB Beto for £400,000 to cover the CB's of Hangeland and Andreson, with the former looking likely to move on in the summer as attracting a lot of interest.

I managed to bring in Ugur Yildirim on a free. He is a versatile AMR/FR and has provided cover for Dempsey as he is picking up too many injuries. At the beginning of the season I took a gamble on Diego Tristan for £300,000 from West Ham and he hit 5 goals in 6 before taking a dip in form.

I have bolstered my strikeforce with the £5.5m capture of Russian Alexander Kerzakov who I have admired in previous versions of FM and think he could do well alongside Johnson.

I am hoping we can continue playing well and manage to sneak a top 10 performance, but it will depend on injuries between now and then. I have no cup to worry about as out of both of those, losing 2-1 away to Plymouth in the 4th round of the League Cup and losing 2-1 at home in the 3rd round of the FA Cup to Reading.

Restarted Aston Villa game (couldn't get tactics right in first) and now in november. Players in:

Henri Saivet: £2.2m (rises to £5.5m) - Contract compensation. 7 Star (he's useless now as only 17, but he'll get good, in 2008 he was awesome)
Georgie Wijnaldum: £3m approx. - 17, already good stats, potential to far exceed Ashley Young. 7 stars
David Santon: £2.4m - Still young, stats aren't good, but plays very well, 7 stars, potential to far exceed Milner. Can play anywhere down the right.
Oscar Cardozo: £5.5m - Cannot score, gets good ratings, i have him to hold up ball for faster striker, but he's useless for me atm.
Marcelo: £4m - Excellent, potential to be even better too, bargain.

Sold:

Harewood - £5m
Carew - £7m (hes real bad)

Currently 8th, mid november, 17 points (1st has 28). Always concede last minute, even if i go ultra defensive, it's just coded in the game, cup games are just shocking. Last round of cup, against Stoke, 5-4 i won. 3 goals for me were penalties, one an own goal. Why do they code this in, this dramatic sequence of crap, you can be 10-0 up as Madrid against 8 man kidderminster, and i'd guarantee you you would concede 2 in last 2 minutes lol.

My tactics are sound, i just cannot score. I control most games, but they can't shoot for crap. Villa get a £9m budget increase in October though, so i'm going to try and get another striker in new year, because Saivet ain't ready.

GK - Friedel (awesome)
DR - Santon (already awesome)
DC - Davis (not good yet, he's dire atm)
DC - Cuellar (amazing)
DL - Marcelo (great attacking)
MR - Milner (as good as young, stats rise fast, rate him)
MCd - Reo-coker (does a solid job defending, works ass off)
MCa - Barry (Midfield general, runs the show)
ML - Young (gets the crosses in, inconsistent)
FCd - Cardozo (does not shoot or score, ok at holding ball though)
FCa - Agbonlahor (inconsistent, sometimes you won't know he's playing)

Think i went for youngsters too soon, Saivet, Wijnaldum, Santon are just too young, but whole team is really. Next season will be good. Oh, Defluenso, 7 star potential in U18's :)

Ah well I haven't actually picked it up yet, don't want to get addicted again :(

Have they released any patches yet? I heard there were some really bad injury rates in this game.

Aye they fixed that, released the 9.1.0 patch not long after launch.

Just popped out and purchased this, early christmas present to myself. Todays challenege (which shouldn't be hard) is to as Blackburn, get to this stage of the season in a higher position than they currently are :p.

lol :p

Blackburn are actually pretty good I find from the start, they creamed me last season 6-1 which was horrendous for me. Played them once this season and got a 2-2 draw. Kinda like my jinx team at the moment, someone I should beat but don't :P

Good lad :p.

I'd keep hold of Hughes, Hangeland, Dempsey, Konchesky as long as you can really. However i sold Hughes for £4m in January during first season. Along with Baird, he'll be at fault for many of your goals.

Could be worth getting Carioca while you can, if you can also. If you need a left winger, Leonardo is good for 2-3 seasons too.

Hangeland is still picked on subs in 2012 for me, and the same with Jimmy Bullard/Clint Dempsey. Definitely worth holding on to them :).

Just pulled off my best result this season.

Chelsea unbeaten in premiership, and champions now, at the bridge, took a 2-0 lead in 8 mins, then they scored 2, ended up 2-2 at half time, got to 75 mins, Huntelaar scored, then another 5 mins later, and my super goalkeeper scored his second of the game in the 84th minute! Won 5-3 at the bridge :D.

(Akinfeev is in my penalty takers, and scored two LOL).

Edit: Correction: Chelsea beaten twice in league, both by me :D.

I forgot about Leonardo, I do actually have him on the left, although he gets tired far too easily, and needs replacing nearly every game he plays. I don't play Baird so cannot comment on him conceeding goals for me.

My current back 4 is Konchesky - Hangelaand - Andresen - Santon. I have Beto as cover for the CB spot at the moment as he was all I could afford in the Jnauary window and was expecting to lose Hangeland, but no offers came in for him.

I tried signing Carioca, if its the same one but he didnt get a work permit so didny conclude the deal. So I dont actually have a decent DCM using Etuhu and Andranik at the moment, its my main area for improving at the end of the season.

Do Fulham have any decent youth players to keep hold of?

Bullard has just returned from injury but usually plays in the middle with a farrow pushing him forward, true to real life he shoots loads but is yet to score. Looking forward to playing tonight and giving Kerzakov his debut.

Err, Reece Jones, is he in your game?

Omozusi is a promising DR.

I'm too far ahead to remember now though.

Andreasen is a very good DM, could use hughes in centre and put Andreasen DM.

Just crushed the mags 4-1 at St. James' :D

I may be lower in the Premier table than them at the moment, but that made my night :P

The premiership is so hard, you could easily lose every game being any team. I'm sticking to 4-4-2 atm, but just cannot score, maybe having Cardozo in a deep-lying forward isn't right for him. He rarely shoots in the area. Hopefully Owen will join me in Jan.

Gonna start a new game tonight though and try a conference side. To be honest, i reckon it will be tactically easier, it's just slow tempo, narrow, big tall target man, pacey wingers.

Hmm, at that time where the good players go over the hill, and now need replacements in many positions.

Sold Anyukov cos people disliked him, so he went for £15m, but ended up with only £2-3m of it lol.

Need replacements in;

DR, AMR, and backups in AML, DL, DR.

Every ruddy day you need replacements!:p

In regards to the comments I made earlier, well...

I'm 7 games in (5 League and 2 Cup) an am sitting 16th in the table with 1 win, 2 draws and 2 losses. Beat Colchester in the league cup, then lost to West Brom in the next round thanks to the ref. Matty Derbyshires gone to injury, whilst McCarthy, Roberts and Santa Cruz are nowhere to be seen on the pitch. Warnock and Dunn are also out, so my three best performing players are sidelined.

I think I know how Ince feels...

Still, that one victory was a 2-1 win against Chelsea, in a match we dominated :p
