Was at my local Asda this afternoon as i had to get a few bits & came to pay for it all on my card at the self checkout and i also requsted to get £20 cash back. Paid for everything & got my cash and when i looked on my internet banking about an hour ago iv noticed that Asda have already took the money out of my bank account but as usual it will not show on my statement until he next couple of days which i know is normal but it struck to me that they have taken £5 more than they should have, i know its not a huge ammount of money but i thought that the chip and pin system thats run in stores is supposed to be reliable in the case of card transactions? The ammount that the card reader on my told me on the self checkout as well was the right ammount that i was supposed to get charged but on my bank it shows as an £5 more has been taken from my account, iv still got the receipt that i received from the store so shall i just take it in with me next time i go back into Asda or will they just refund me the £5 back into my bank?

Thanks all - Liam

Once it shows on your statement, take a print out showing they took too much along with your receipt and they'll more than likely refund it.

Yeah, for all you know the additional might be some direct debit you have forgotten about or the like :)

The till assistant can enter whatever amount they like once you put your card in :)

I was sooo tempted at times when i was a till monkey :p

Why do people post threads about this sort of thing. Just call ASDA, i'm sure they can help you more than we can.

i agree, it was pointless.

Well at least it did not happen to YOU did it? There again as you said you don't understand. Maybe im not exactly a money bags and a small amount of money might be a lot to me. Next time think before you post things like this in these forums. There again there is always one who spoils it isnt there. Anyway thanks for everyone else on here who posted helpful replies on here - i rang them up and going back there with my bank statement in a couple of days.

Liam
