Can't decide..360 or PS3?

Why are you even posting this in here?

By your own admission, two irrelevant posts.

I stated why I opted for the PS3 and not the Xbox 360 and digressed accordingly.

To keep it on track as some people obviously get a bit upset about this, I would personally go for the PS3 just for Bluray, 1080p/24 makes "downloadable HD" look like Youtube (especially on a decent panel)

tell you what rafster i will give you the same money a xbox 360 costs if you can make a "low end pc" that you seem to witter on about so much, it has to be able to do the same graphics as the xbox does  think you can do it  am thinking no :p

Sorry to break it to you but the Xbox and PS3 don't actually render games at 1280x720 never mind 1920x1080. You would not need a fast PC to match its resolution at all.

Errr, most console games are rendered at 720p with a few running at near 1080p (wipeout HD, gran turismo 5 prologue) with a vast minority running at below 720p. The only games i can think of off the top of my head that run at below 720p are halo 3 and haze.

Where exactly did you get the idea that console games aren't being rendered at that resolution?

I do think the games consoles are the equivalent of low end PCs

cool so you keep your pc in the living room connected to a 5.1 sound system and your main tv? i'm guessing you use a wireless keyboard and gamepad when you're lying on the couch playing on it?

to be honest am thinking your talking out of your backside but thats just me, if you disagree go and blog it

I bought a 360 at the weekend and my mate bought a PS3.

I have to say, I am happier with the 360.

Firstly, as many others have said, the catalogue of games are far greater than the PS3.

Secondly, We both bought GTA IV. He paid £40 and I paid £20, both brand new.

Thirdly, connecting mine and the wife's PC up via Ethernet to run Windows Media Center was a breeze and I can now stream our huge catalogue of music and films to my 42" whilst still playing FC2 online with no lag (I thought that was going to be the sore point but it was not). I have yet to connect my mates PC to the PS3 and see what it can do.

Fourth. Granted, they are renowned for being noisy but tbh after setting my mates PS3 up and my 360 and after playing games on both, there was no noticable difference in noise once the volume was wacked up (which I am assuming most do to get involved much more with the games they play). I have also bought a third party 3 fan block for those long nights playing and that can be noisy but is not noticable when the volume is up.

Lastly, we do not currently need Bluray at the moment as HD is enough to make us happy. As others have said, they can be picked up as a 360 add-on later a quite a good price now.

Conclusion. I am no fanboy of consoles. I just want something I can play games with the family and the added bonus of streaming media via my PC is great.

Edit: To the OP. We bought the Arcade version, reliased we needed a decent size HDD and bought the 60GB HDD from Game for £45 which included a headset and 3 months gold membership.

i own both but i'd say go for the PS3 for most the reasons mentioned already.

I'll add one more bonus, if u get a HD camcorder which uses AVCHD u can use the AVCHD decoding built into the ps3 to watch your footage on the big tv :)

Since the PS3 is scheduled to go down in price mid next year I'd wait until then to get one, and get a 360 for Christmas buy an extra controller or two (there's a good bundle with two games at a certain store) and a bunch of games.

That's sound advice imo.

He's not though, really. For the PS3 especially, most games have a set resolution of less than 1280x720, and are then upscaled by the console. Bearing in mind that the consoles don't really have the power to do much AA and AF, it wouldn't take a hugely powerful PC to run games at the same resolution and level of detail.

Which games are these? I've only heard of a handful, Haze and Halo 3 being the only confirmed ones i can remember, GTAIV was just a rumor before you bring that up; no one has confirmed either way whether it runs at 720p or not, it was just some random dude on AV forums effectively saying 'it's less than 720p, i can tell because of some of the pixels and having seen many below 720ps in my time'

Just going by the many face-offs Eurogamer have done; seems like every other game runs at a lower resolution on the PS3, unfortunately.

Edit: As for GTA4, EG reckon it runs at 1152x640.
