That time of year again, its been a great year for British sport, Olympics, Football and F1. Personally I would like to see an Olympic athletic take it but I think Lewis Hamilton will win it.

My picks

1st Chris Hoy
2nd Rebecca Adlington
3rd Lewis Hamilton

The amount of work and effort the athletes put in for such little reward and money over shadows what Lewis Hamilton has achieved with the millions pumped into his up bringing by McLaren.

* Rebecca Adlington, swimming
* Nicole Cooke, cycling
* Chris Hoy, cycling
* Rebecca Romero, cycling
* Bradley Wiggins, cycling
* Ben Ainslie, sailing
* Christine Ohuruogu, athletics
* Lewis Hamilton, motor sport
* Joe Calzaghe, boxing
* Andy Murray, tennis.

Team of the year = should go to Manchester United or Team GB

Below are the catergories

• Team of the Year

• Coach of the Year

• Overseas Personality

• Young Personality

• Helen Rollason Award

• Unsung Hero Award

• Lifetime Achievement

• Sports Personality of the Year

Your top 3 are spot on IMO. Will probably see Rebecca Adlington winning the Young Personality prize.

surely hamilton has to win this. yes the olympics lot did well, but that was for such a small period of the year.

hamilton has held himself well all year, presents himself well and is a PERSONALITY, unlike the rest who are completely unknown outside of the olympics (unless you have specific interest in their sports).

we have had great riders before, and some swimmers, but nobody has achieved what hamilton has imo.
he is someone who can be looked up to, a role model for younger people.

Such a small period of the year, wtf are you on about, Athletes train for years in fact they train throughout their life and some even hold down jobs. How can you compare someone who has had a life of luxury to someone who does not know if they will ever make it as a athlete let alone win a gold medal at the greatest sporting even in the world competing against people all around the world for just 2-3 minutes of your life to win.

Also LW is dull as dishwater far from having a personality.

LH will win it due to the exposure and publicity he got.

Personally i think Ben Ainslie should get something too, he's our most sucessful sailor ever and that deserve some recognition.

it does deserve recognition. but this is sports PERSONALITY. the only real ones with public personalities on the list is calzaghe, murray (he best get nothing as hes an arrogant idiot) and hamilton

Why do the others have no personality simply because we haven't been flooded with interviews with them? From what I saw during the Olympics, Adlington came across as an nice girl, and Hoy a typically gruff Scot.

Anyway, the whole "Sports Personality isn't judged on actual personality uff uff uff" is such an tired point, made every year. It's wrongly labelled, oh well, let's move on.

He's just a mclaren robot. As programmed as the ECU.

He will win it though and I will be very sad. F1 drivers have won this in the past in olympic years. I take nothing away from him as a driver but he's led a charmed life and has got where he is because of a fantastic car and stacks of mclaren money.

There could be people on here that could be f1 world champion given the treatment hamilton has had since 6 or 7.

Yet we all get the chance to see if we can be great swimmers. The level of dedication it has took for the swimmer compared to hamilton for little reward and break a world record puts her beyond comparison with any F1 racing driver. The same is true for calzage. He makes a mistake and he's finished. Its just him in the ring no back up.

I remember when Villenueve won the canadian version and an all time great hockey player remarked he had been beaten by a car.

Hamilton shouldn't even make the top 3.

i didnt say they have no personality.

dannyjo - so what if non olympians have won in an olympic year. Just because its the olympics doesnt mean an olympian has to win it.

i seriously doubt a single person on this forum could be an F1 driver regardless of what training they could have been given.

are you saying that LH doesnt deserve it because swimmers get little recognition or reward? not his fault they are in a poorly funded and uninteresting viewer sport.

calzaghe is finished if he makes a mistake? hardly.

I saw the Gaby Logan interview with her a week or so ago. So down to earth and she was genuinely over the moon to be able to go on Sports personality let alone think of winning it.

Hamiltons winning speech will be written for him by a legal team at mclaren. A quick speech then back on the plane and back to switzerland so he doesn't rack up too many days in the country.

so he is now wrong for wanting to protect his money? that is a crime?

The achievements and golds won far outstrip the effort required for damon hill or any other driver to sit in the best car on the grid.

Redgrave or pincents achievement far out weigh sitting in the best car.

other than the olympics, who had heard of Hoy?
I don't understand your question. :confused:

People who watched the Olympics learnt who Hoy and Adlington were. People who watch boxing learnt who Cazalghe was (years ago obviously). People who watch Tennis learnt about Andy Murray. Etc, etc.

You still have to generally take an interest in a sport to know who anyone is. Just because some sports are more high-profile doesn't mean they're the only important ones.

calzaghe has been on many many things for a long time, same for murray.

Hoy and Addlington - olympics. once every 4 years you might hear their names, maybe for 2 olympics. murray, all year that the tennis season is running. calzaghe, all year every year.

i didnt say they are the only important ones, all sports are important.
