The Wire

I've never seen it, but people have said it's very good.

Also look up Breaking Bad & Generation Kill, both great shows.

Yes its very good, but not for everyone. I watched 8 episodes in a row its that good lol. Not been anything close apart from 24 for me.

The shield is also worth checking out.

It's good, but overrated imo. Found The Sopranos and Rome had much more value for me.
As much as I highly rate The Sopranos as far as conventional episodic drama goes, anyone that's seen them all has to concede that it lost its way in later seasons, where the writers resorted to sensationalist and implausible story arcs only to seemingly tire of them without full exploration. At these points the character central to the arc was 'got', and rarely, if ever, referenced again.

I loved the ending, though, which I know puts me in a minority. So The Sopranos was very entertaining, sure, but The Wire is on a different plane entirely. It's not without flaws of course, but the whole is so engaging that these are easily dismissed. Needless to say I loved it. I've tried to watch other dramas but The Wire spoiled me; I can't watch episodic dramas that, for all the great writing and acting, are bound to TV/Hollywood conventions anymore.

Can't comment on Rome, as I only ever saw the first episode, but the mere fact that I wasn't compelled to go any further probably accounts for something.

I agree with this, the first season was by far the best. Only a few episode really stood out in the later seasons such as Pine Barrens for example.

I think the ending was rubbish though. All that build up over the years and the couldn't be assed to finish it lol.

I've heard good things about The Wire, been meaning to watch a few episodes myself and see what it's like. I just bought the complete Buffy the Vampire Slayer collection though for £50 so that will keep me busy for a while. Only just finished watching season 1.

I loved The Wire tbh, slow burner at the start but its worth it. If you do start getting into it, dont look up any stuff of it on the net etc, spoilers everywhere:o

a bit overrated and i would suggest shot on a budget.

if you are watching the 1st series it really improves from episode 6 or 7 onwards.

I am now 2/3 the way through the 2nd series
