Right before you all tell me to look on google for a solution i have and the stuff is out of date.

Basically i get sound on the game on the opening cinematic but as soon as the game starts (user controlled) there is no sound at all. I have plugged my USB headset in which uses different sound drivers and all works fine but i just cant get it to run on my speakers which is a pain (partly becuase playing the game on my headphones scares the crap out of me) i am running Vista 64 bit edition and have installed version 1.1 patch which didnt work either.

I have set and unset all the audio settings ingame too and this has had no effect either.

I am using a P5Q Pro board with onboard sound if anyone else has had similar problems.

All help is greatly apreciated!!!

Yeah that happened to me to in XP (although i think i got some sound, like the music, can't remember now was that long ago), but i remember i just dropped the Performance in the Advanced Speaker Settings down to Basic to fix it.

Try running in XP-SP2 compatibility mode (even in dx10), it fixes the issue for most people. Good luck :)

Right managed to sort it went to asus got the most updated realtek drivers for vista 64bit for the P5Q pro.

Then followed these instructions.

Enable Stereo mixing, to do this browse to Start > Control Panel > Sound (in classic view). Once done switch to the Recording tab which will show the currently active inputs on your system (e.g. Line in, Microphone). Right click in the clear space below these devices and select the option for Show disabled devices. This should show an additional device called Stereo mixing, right click on this device and select Enable.

And now all is sorted and working perfectly.

WOW! I've been struggling with this issue for days now. In Vista (32bit) I could have DX9 and sound (compatibility mode XPSP2 + forced dx9) *OR* DX10 with no sound, until I read this post.

Thank you, thank you and thanks again.....

This worked a treat, now I am enjoying Bioshock @1920x1200 at max in DX10 with full sound, runs like butter.

*Dances a little jig*

Did I say thank you?

:)

Tony.
