Never trust software that doesn't properly uninstall, so you have to download software from the manufacturers website just to get rid of it. That alone speaks volumes.

Besides that, it's sloppy, bloated and a constant nag. There is nothing about Norton I like. I even hate the colour scheme.

I wish Norton Antivirus was a person, so I could ring it up at 3am every night asking if the limited edition Gimli Pipe Rack was still for sale.

mcafee is good, low resources

No it isn't it adds a terrible lot to boot time and scans way too much, my mums acer lappy came with a free 60 day trial of the rubbish and the boot time went down by 10 seconds by replacing it with avast home edition.

used to use pc gaurd before mcafee, then they 'did' something to it... no change to its features or anything they just updated it or something and then it became unusable adding much more boot time and my ping skyrocketed, so i got mcafee and problem solved!

if i didn't have mcafee i would just use windows firewall + a random free virus scan :)

Or just use a Router, Firefox, AdBlock and NoScript! :P then no need for stupid AV programs.

So if a Virus came through and email attachment or msn how would the above stop it? They wouldn’t is your answer, the above is nothing to do with virus protection just aimed at stopping malware etc.

Don't pay for crap like this please ... an anti virus isn't suppose to be real slow and crap until they bring out a 'gamer' version. Anyone used this waste of binary?

Stick to AVG, Free-AV or NOD32 if you wanna fork out money.

lol. Terrible advert, as the girl says at the end "get a grip!" Norton have finally realized their Antivirus seriously slows down pcs, took them long enough. Were their own Norton protected pcs running too slowly for them to check forums for other people's problems?

Avast all the way. It's pretty lightweight and offers quite good protection and it's FREE :)

all resident scanners slow your pc down

defender real-time scanning, and any resident AV will effect gaming performance, (even if it's a small amount)

Stupid Norton !

I binned off Norton for this very reason, My PC could handle the odd scan while playing, It was when it checked for updates that caused me to lag like hell. I put up with Norton for nearly 8 years until now because of sticking to what you know and all that. I have now found an unobtrusive alternative and I wont be going back any time soon.

Lame add.

Gamer addition, don't make me laugh!

+1

And you've used this version? They're not saying there old version is crappy they're saying that this version is aimed at gamers and makes sure that if you're in the middle of the game that stuff like scans, updates, etc. are delayed until you've finished. Yes you can manually turn them off but a lot of people would forget.

An antivirus, primarily, is for security. It doesn't matter how fast your PC goes, how great you can play games it matters more, surely, that your PC is secure.

You can get AVG, AVast ant many others which are fine (though personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole). But remember that they also do payed for products. So you have to ask yourself what the difference is between the payed for and free products - I mean if the free versions were just as good as the paid for ones then surely all Enterprise customers would use them. However they purposely delay new definitions, horrid support and a multitude of other ways to get you to pay.

The updates would cause problems as it uses any and all bandwidth to obtain them and then updates the database. Simply changing the update schedule to first thing in the morning would be the best idea.

I, personally, use Symantec Corporate edition which is superb. I have, previously, used Norton and had no real problems with it. It does what it says on the tin and for the less savvy people out there takes a lot of guess work out of AV and security.
