Grand Theft Auto 4

game is running good here on a [email protected] with 4gig ram and 8800gt. although gfx dont look anywhere near as good as crysis so id have to say gta 4 is a crappy console port.

still fun though. :)
Virtually the same spec as me

If you get a spare moment, would you mind trying it at 1280x1024 on medium and seeing how smooth it is?

Forgot to ask, are you running XP or Vista?

When I get up off nights I'll be going into town to get the DVD version at the best price. Hoping I can get 1680 x 1050 up and running a medium detail.

Lol...

I have a Q6600 (stock), 8800GTS 320 and 2GB of RAM and it won't let me pick 1680x1050 unless I put it to absolute minimum. (Where the FPS is around 30)

I tried 720p where it ran ok at around 40, with a mix of low/medium, but now I've upped it to the next highest (some weird resolution, 1152x852 or something?) which was just as good (or bad, I suppose) framerate wise.

I'm running the 177 nVidia drivers though, not sure if going to the 178s is worth it? I've heard lots of bad things about the 180s....

I've found some command line arguments to put in that will let me experiment a bit more but it's late so I'm going to bed. I have no lectures tomorrow (or more accurately I'm missing the one I have at 9am:D) so I'll have plenty of time to try stuff....

Overall impressions of the PC port are terrible, to be quite honest it should be running much better.

Two and a half hours later 41% :) Geuss I'll be playing after work tomorrow, depending how long the other 59% takes! So annoying its just within my grasp at last but its at the other end of the pipe line :(
