The little ****!

Suppose it's my fault for standing it on end in the middle of the table.

He must have knocked it over and it's rolled onto the floor.

Now it doesn't focus at all.

I guess the best thing to do is go through the insurance which will cost me £125 excess to get the £350 that I payed for it back.

I guess it's cheaper than getting it repaired.

Been quoted at least £135 to get it repaired by Canon.

I think i'm going to cry!

I had a lens that wouldn't autofocus.

I pulled it apart and found a little rubber band that links the motor to the internal mechanism had come off. Popped it back on and it's never failed since!!

Worth a go??

Will try it tonight :)

Thanks.

Didn't fancy pulling it apart incase all the glass fell to pieces :p

All i did was remove the plate from the top of the lens (the part that fixes to the camera) and have a poke about. Be careful there are some cable ribbons in there, from the contacts on the outside of the lens and they are very short, but thankfully the Tamron lens I worked on had the little white holders for them that can be released with a set of tweezer's.

Good luck!!

Oh and we need pictures, or it didn't happen!! :)

if youre on about sending it to canon, dont try and open it yourself they can tell and will probably bump the cost and certainly invalidate any running warranties etc.

I'd use the insurance. It's why you have it. The excess wont increase but the premium will... not by much though i'm sure.

Repairs *might* be more expensive depending on parts, i wouldnt want to take that risk.

up to you!

I know it'll cost you postage and time but Canon used to offer a free quote for repairs leaving you to decide how to proceed :)

Picture of the cat required.

Dunno which one it was.

Anyway. Update...

So insurance are paying out for this lens.

So I apply for a lovely loan (and get accepted :p) and am replacing it with the f2.8 IS version along with a few other goodies :D

I guess if insurance are paying out, you may as well try and fix it yourself, or look up the price for a 3rd party repair..... assuming the insurance dont need it for proof etc? :S
