*** The Official Football Manager 2009 Thread ***

Anyone have a feeling at the start of certain seasons that it aint gonna be a good one? Barely got first team players in all positions now :(.

I've just played Man City for the 14th time in three and a half seasons :/

Still got to play them again in the league.

I really need to get some sleep,

Just came off FM 09 after beating Liverpool 1-0 away with good old Man City in a very important game,

Here is my current squad:

And my table position at the end of November (season 1):

Not doing too bad considering I didnt spend much money pre season but have a few players already signed up to come in during the January window.

Anyone got any suggestions on how I could improve my squad, I have two new players on the way in January (left back & left mid) but other than that I am open to suggestions,

Now... sleep!

started getting good results with rangers now and im finally top of the league in november after a slow start, ive gone on an 11 match or so winning run

performed well in europe with a 2-2 draw at home to lyon, 0-0 draw away to werder and a double over Cluj in CL group stages, with a must win tie against werder up next to qualify for the last 16, actual bricking it. My first cluj match away I was 2-0 down in the first half and scored 3 goals in the last 10 minutes (2 in stoppage time) to win 3-2! Lost 3-2 away to lyon after being 3-0 down (2 in the first 10)

Allan Mcgregor wants a new challenge so trying to punt him

edit: Beat werder bremen 2-0, qualified in second place joint on points with lyon after they drew away to cluj, was hoping they would do me a favour but they didnt :(

Picked up this guy (regen) for £8m on a 70k a week contract, which is a bit steep but according to my scout he's the next best thing since sliced bread. Only problem is I can't play him for another 7 months as he's not allowed to play for more than 2 teams in a year :/

Any places in particular you feel the team is a bit weak on? Got loads of players I can recommend that are fantastic, but not sure which positions you want :)

@FlippinEck
Nice result against Lyon :D Just played them myself, lost 1-0 at home in the first leg but won 2-0 away. Granted, not as dramatic as 3 goals in the last 10 minutes but I was very happy with the result :) Did you not quality due to Lyon getting a draw or did you scrape through on GD?

Got to January 10 points behind Portsmouth who are still top. Getting offers for the majority of my team at the minute! Think i'm going to let Steven Reid go for around 5 mil, does anyone have any suggestions as to who i should replace him with? I'm looking for a decent central midfielder to fit into a 4-4-2 attacking team. I've got both Keith Andrews and David Dunn who can play in Reids position (Dunn usually does anyway) so i'm looking for someone for the future, that can slot in every now and again.

Preferrably English (trying to build a UK side :p) but i'm open to foreign players. Maximum of around 7 mil.

Mauricio Isla
Mascio
Ricardo Faty

Check out those for central midfield. Mascio is the ultra cheap + good option, however the other two are still great but more costly (or at least are in the second season) but both should be under £5 million, unfortunatley though, they aren't English :P

I'll take a look at them. One of my scouts has also alerted me to a Barcelona youngster, Thiago. A bit worse than Keith Andrews stats wise but is 10 years his junior and can be picked up for 150k!

Might make 2 midfield signings this window.

With Villa, Im 10th at the moment after 28 games, im on 39 points (10w 9d 9l), 9th is 2 points off, but 8th is on 50 points, i think 9th will be my final position if i keep same level, as theres 3 big gaps, bottom are nowhere near, top are miles off.

Got to Quarters in League cup (expectations), 6th round FA (expectations), but im expected Euro spot which ain't gonna happen. I'm still in Uefa cup though! Won the Euro Vase, then the 3 qualifiers after, then got through a tough group, beat Napoli 1st knockout round and am now in 2nd KO vs. Portsmouth, i should win.

Team is too young and fragmented for Prem atm though, that's why i'm fine with 10th, i dominate possession in vast majority of matches, as i play slow-direct, but my shots aren't usually on target nor do i have many of them most times. Squad understanding is apparently good, so i guess it's just players themselves need to develop.

Keirrison, Saivet, wijnaldum, Santon, Asenjo, all are still too weak for regular 1st team. Cardozo is shocking, will not shoot.

Hmm, another question :p

Looking at a fella for defense here, Andriy Rusol. Now his contract expired on the first of January, but i've no option to sign him on a free. He's on a month to month contract with his club and has expressed a desire to come to Blackburn but I really don't want to be paying 4mil for a player who should be available on a free. Anyone know whats occurring?

Oh, forgot to mention i'm also using Matt's V3 tactics, i find the Standard one best as my players can't short pass for crap lol.

Camacho cost me £8.5m, DM/MC, i've been trying him MC with forward runs, he's awesome, 2 MoM's, 2 goals in 2 matches. At start he's £4m, late in first year maybe £6m.
Wijnaldum is also progressing fast, worth the £3m (7* potential).

Just can't score. Assistant always says i need to get more crosses in, or my crosses are crap or i'm not turning all my possession into shots. Even vs. Man utd and Chelsea i have like 58% possession, bit stumped.

To be honest I find the Assistant Manager for myself a bit of a tool sometimes, always tells me to show strikers on their weaker feet, always says to hard tackle wingers and always close down central midfielders but doing all that warps my tactic and formation and I find that I end up leaking more goals due to plays being out of position. I just ignore his advice 99% of the time and use the match stats to make decisions.

Oh dam, i follow that to the letter, takes me ages, because changing tactics in-game, means you gotta redo opposition instructions and he usually says what you mention, basically everyone on weaker foot.

I considered that it would have my players running about like idiots, but wouldn't assume it would be bad. Yeh, the tackling ahrd is funny, then moans i give away free kicks.

Maybe you've cracked it for me mate, i have all the possession, bit of quality, great formation, but they make mistakes or can't find a pass or strikers refuse to shoot. Maybe because they are trying to hassle the opposition.

Ashley young and milner have become Gods since i moved them from ML/R to AML/R, they get forward and cross more, though it's still the standard mixed tactic 4-4-2, but strikers rarely touch the ball, except where i have a fast player beating a backline. Most goals are in MC or wingers (if not all)

For a young CM look at Pol. He plays in the spanish league, not sure where he starts. Cost me £1.5m. He isnt english but has has the potential to be amazing.

A quick question for Syke as he is the only other person playing as Fulham. What tactic are you using fella? I am on the last game of the season now (which will be played tonight). I spent 3 hours last night playing and got through 7 matches and spent hours trawlling players for potential purchases.

I have dropped from my position of 12th to 16th with the 1 game to go and struggling to score.

I just popped home for lunch and squeezed in a couple of games. Beating Derby 3-1 and Cardiff 3-1 as well, nice. I am Hull BTW, in the Championship after finishing 20th in the Premier League.

I have FINALLY got some tactics which seem to be working for me. I always watch the 3D game, with key highlights, and my players are just making much better decisions and the finishing is getting much better.

Juan Pablo Angel (Age 33) has 9 goals in 9 since joining me :)

I have a couple of good youngsters as well as my average age was quite high (buying in cheap veteran players can do that to you)

Of my Veterans though, I have had Kily Gonzales and Angel who have been legendary for me so far :)
