Hi,

Ok I am in a new flat and will be getting a Panasonic 42" plasma but not for about a month. So I am keen to get the HD box from sky (will be a new customer). But because I am in a block of more than 6 flats I can't order online . Don't understand why but its a right pain as I could save loads on the HD package online.

So I rang up and have signed onto the HD package but its going to be a £180 installation fee . They said they do have some Sky+ offers, which I think will mean a £80 installation fee.

So my question is, is HD really worth it for the extra £100 installation fee and extra £10 a month?

Soooo annoying I can't order online as I could have got the installation for around £90 with quidco.

Its worth the extra £10pm but why are thy charging you an extra £100 installation fee ?, the fitting of Sky+ and SkyHD is exactly the same .....unless you mean the extra £100 is for the actual HD box ?
I guess only you can say whether the extra £100 is worth it but it depends on how much TV you watch but why buy a HD Plasma if your not going to make the most out of it.

The £180 is the £30 installation + the £150 for the HD box. Its only £99 online but I can't order online, anyone know why I can't if I am in a Flat?

You do have a point Attu90 and they said if I did go for the Sky+ and did an upgrade later it would be £210 - £60 installation + £150 for the box. At least I won't have to pay the £180 again.

I am getting all the movie channels but no sports as I am not much of a fan apart from rugby which is on other channels so I think it maybe worth the extra 100.

The order process is different if you live in a flat in case you need to have a survey done. Provision to flats can be done in a number of different ways.

The main issue with ordering though is that the process simply isn't very smart; it's easier for them to make you order by phone than to try and work out online if you have any special installation requirements and what type of installation is needed.

If you have the right Av kit then yes it definately worth it, by that I mean decent size TV and surround sound. Its not just sport and movies, some of the programmes on Discovery, History and NG are even better picture quality that the Sky channels.

Well I will be getting the Panasonic 42" PX80b Plasma so hopefully that should make the HD look good but the surround sound will have to wait till the budget allows. I do actually remember now when I went to the US and was at a friends house and she switched from normal tv to HD and I must say I was taken back by how good it was.

Ive just cancelled mine again, they changed the bitrate of the movies and the high def images arent much better than an upscaled DVD now, its pretty poor.

Movies used to take up about 20% of the sky guide, now it takes up about 6%, sky say their compression is better, but its clearly just lower quality.

I'd say it all depend's on how far your going to be sat from the telly !!
I haven't got SkyHD but i've got a Panasonic PZ81 with freesatHD and can say the picture from BBC HD close up is amazing, but sitting on the sofa 10ft away it's hard to tell the difference.

Remember you don't have to go through Sky, a good local independant may be able to undercut as £180 seems very high!

I wouldn't pay the extra as it doesn't even look like HD its more like DVD nothing to write home about

I know everyone is fully entitled to their opinion, but that is a load of tosh I'm afraid. As others have said, you need your eye sight checked if you truly believe the quality of true HD content on Sky HD isn't up to much.

I think you should be able to get a better deal than that out of Sky.

I have Sky+HD hooked up to a TH-42PX80 and sit about 7 foot away. £10 extra is worth it just for the Discovery and Nat Geo channels alone IMO. The picture on Rush HD is fantastic.

one of the ways to reduce the initial cost's is if you have a freind that already has sky to recommend you i belive it brings the price of the box down to £75
