Hi,

Today we finally got our chocolate labrador puppy wooohooo :D

He is still quite nervous and exploring his new home.

We have been given the same puppy food that he has been started on (pro plan dry food for puppies). He has been fed 50 grams 4 times per day. However, I do not have any scales yet and need to buy some later or tomorrow.

Could someone give me a rough estimate of how much 50 grams of puppy food is... a picture or a cupful etc.

New experience for me as this is our first dog. :D

Thank you for your help.

Get the ******* pics up Dude, What are you doing to us Pet lovers when you post this & don't post pics for us to get all Fuzzy about :(
/Rant over :D

Had my Frank staffy dog since he was 7 weeks old, Met him when he was 1 day old & have known both his parents all there lives
Buy a set of kitchen scales & weigh the food properly but don't stress to much about it, Good thing with these little animals is whatever goes in comes out quick enough so you'll soon get an idea how much it needs per day.

Just give him a normal size cupful and see how he is. Dogs WILL overeat so dont feed him just because he is asking for it.

The vet will monitor his weight for you and just take him every 3 months or so for the first year.

Make sure he has a couple of chew toys and knows that he can chew them, but dont give him too many as they can become confused and upset by having so much to play with.

Get a dog basket and make sure he sleeps in it at night, you can have it in your room but try not to let him sleep on the bed. Dogs will see this as a sign of weakness on your part and that they are effectively "as important" as you and so keeping them in line can be difficult.

Good luck and make sure to take lots of vids and photos as you will kick yourself if you dont later on :D

Completely depends on the feed. But I measure out 300g for my dog which fills a 1 pint measuring jug like this;

Thank you for the advice all. I thought about a cup full but I understand how important it is to get the amount right as they love to eat. :)

I will post some pics up later on tonight as he's sleeping after lots of exploring in and around the house. :D

Do dogs overeat? Mine doesn't seem to, he'll quite happily leave half a bowl sitting there if I give him too much....is this not normal?

Dogs make great feet warmers at night.

Varies from dogs to dogs. With our last two, you could just keep topping up the bowls whenever they were getting low.

With our current two, the bigger one would just keep eating until it exploded!

My dog lulu ( who got run over and killed earlier this year :( ) would literally eat until she was sick.... and then eat the sick! dogs can be really gross at times.

My mum's just got a labrador / poodle cross called a labradoodle on Sunday. She's called Enya and is extreme cuteness. I'll dig out some pictures later.

Oh and you don't have to draw parodies to the musician, I did point this out to mum as she named her.
