The other thread tends to have those just beginning the game, so I dont want to ruin anything.

But seriously though, the main quest is over in about 5 minutes. I couldn't actually believe it was the end, in fact at the time I thought it was a great scripted set piece to mark the middle of the game.
The whole main quest is quite poorly put together story wise, project purity falling into the hands of the enclave isn't ever fully developed, they just dub them the 'baddies' hence keeping it out of their grasp.

The side quests too follow the same formula, go there, clear it out, retrieve something and then leg it back. This was especially disappointing considering the main quest is very very short.

Much can be forgiven though because the immersion and the Capital wasteland is beautifully realized. If the Oblivion modding scene get to grips with the engine then the game will get better and better.

Minor rant over, any thoughts?

It's oblivion with guns, hence why it suffered from the same issues with the main plot. I was disappointed but will hold out for the modding scene to get their teeth sunk in.

I was gutted when I finished the game. I didn't think the ending would come so soon and hadn't explored half of what I wanted to. The only characters I managed to convince to help me were the BoS knight and Fawkes! I never even found dogmeat :(. Maybe I should have asked google for help.

Anyway I did thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not often a game hooks me like that. Looking forward to some decent mods :D.

One of my favorite parts was taking out the slavers stronghold (Paradise falls). I enlisted the help of the brotherhood knight, and while I was ducking and diving she ran up a tower and took the minigun, equipped it, and took out nearly everyone. I thought the AI there was brilliant, and it felt almost like a true party based RPG.

P.s. As a truly 'good' character you dont get the option of killing so many people, so indiscriminately. It wasn't a good time to be a slaver.

The main quest was great up until just after you escape the enclave, then it felt really abrupt, like they couldn't be bothered developing the plot any more. It was a relatively slow and complex build up (looking for your dad, finding out about project purity, searching the vaults for the geck, meeting the president etc), then suddenly BAM a big shootout, and game over.

I'm glad I spent 90% of my time in the game doing side quests and exploring or it would have been a very short and unsatifying experience.

That said, if you do take your time and explore, the game is a perfect length - not too short to be frustrating and not too long to get boring and lose interest. More side quests would have been good though, there was only actually about 15 in the entire game.

My biggest gripe was that, like Oblivion, when you reach a certain level, there is no more benefits to be had from exploring (apart from finding bobble heads)...when I completed the game I had about 9000caps, and about 2000 ammo for every weapon. There just wasnt anything else worth hunting for - the occasional voice recording in a deserted building or vault wasnt enough incentive tbh. I suppose that it is inevitable to reach that point if you play for long enough though.

felt the same here, way way too short, and gameplay gets boring as hell.

tried playing through a second time and ive given up. there arent many sidequests. and all the other places to explore are just all the same. really theres no variation in character creation you just get small and energy weapons up max along with lockpick and science

Surely load up an earlier save and come back to the main mission later

How the hell do you disarm a mine?

Only just started it, looks like a fun game, but it controls aren't as logical as fallout 2.

By pressing random keys iit's T
Why the hell aren't these in *** manual or in the settings for controls..

Is there a list somewhere or could someone post a list.

I think the game could have done with a better ending, I mean come on, (spoiler) I had the mutant guy how was resistant to radiation with me and he wouldn’t go into the bloody tank.

I agree that the end was far too abrupt.

I finished the game in 2 days of having it and whilst i thoroughly enjoyed it i severely regretted not having explored more and not having done all the side quests.

I started again over a week ago (and have been playing a good few hours every day) and am already level 20 and haven't even encountered the enclave yet! Last time i finished the game at level 12!

I found Oblivion had more of a 'wow' effect because it was truly next gen graphics for the time. At first i loved Fallout 3 and i still do but its starting to feel same old same old.

Its EXACTLY like Oblivion (yes i know its run on upgraded engine) but they could have done more to spice up the game play.

I was expecting a massive city to explore like on that Will Smith movie I Am Legend.

Im at Level 12 and only got to Paradise Falls but it crashed (only twice so far).

Can you explain how? Nothing in these games is the same, apart from the fact you can explore, which other games can offer too.

Same engine, same levelling structure, similar (iffy) inventory systems, same voice actors, same quest structure, similar melee combat system, the default controls are practically identical, merchant system is similar.

They have a lot in common.

Having said that, they're both GREAT games, it'd just be nice if they'd made more of an effort to differentiate the two.

Loved it at the start, loved exploring, getting money from side quests and buying new weapons (The fat boy never gets old tbh esp on V.A.T.S)

Disappointing ending like everyone else though, I honestly thought it was the midpoint. Glad I saved it before going back to the brotherhood so I can free roam as much as I want. Still got lots of stuff to find.

First game where you have the option of doing things in many ways (Al-a Crysis) when I've actually had to put thought into it because it seems worthwhile rather than not bothering (I stealthed Paradise City as I didn't have enough ammo/stimpaks - was actually more fun than going in gung ho)

Bring on some mods with decent missions

When I started this game, well for the first few hours anyway, I thought it was just like Oblivion with guns. However, I've found that I've actually been able to get into it, unlike Oblivion. It's nice actually being able to kill all the enemies I've encountered so far, and the way that enemies are presented to you as you level up makes much more sense. I'm really enjoying my sneaky small guns character.
